Did you hope that the war would end earlier this year when Obama first entered the office?

I hoped it but understood realistically that it was not possible.

He ran on a platform of ending the war in Iraq and beefing up Afghanistan.
So, although I am against all war at all time, I knew that the chances were non-existent.

We are no longer going after the perpetrators of 9/11 so what are we doing at war on another continent?
We're beefing up Africa, as well (although that started under Bush).
The military and contractors are too powerful.

WTF, bring the military home.
We cannot take care of the world; we have too many problems internally to look outside.

I do know how to end war, though.
Make all of those who vote for it be required to send their children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives into the enlisted ranks.
Put the lives of their families where their mouths are.
That should do it.

Its not even a war anymore, its just an occupation of a country. It doesnt matter when it ends since its over anyhow. The correct term should be 'When will we pull out?'

Chielgirl, you've made a good point about enlisting the children of people who voted for the war. I know, that sounds evil but maybe if it brought it home for them, they would rethink. Shadow, you're right, it is just an occupation at this point. At least I think it is, I don't know much about the military but that's how it seems. Who wants war? Who wants to be in a country that doesn't want us there? Who doesn't want their loved ones to be back home? Unfortunately, that's what they signed up for & now they & their loved ones at home have to live w/that decision. I know, that may seem harsh but that's the reality. I don't want war, I don't want this Afghanistan thing to run any longer but good grief, if there's a slight chance that our troops being there can run out the Taliban for good, then maybe it can be good. I think we can all agree that the Taliban are the evil ones, they need to be extinguished.

Anyone who paid attention to Obama's campaign would know that he had no plans to leave this year. 16 to 22 months has been the timetable all along.

Which war(s)????

the "war on terror"??....that ended as soon as Obama stated that it would be called "overseas contingency operations"

the "war in afganastan"??....wasnt going to happen..the Prez already stated before he got into office that he wanted to beef it up there

the "war in Iraq"??....the shear logistics of it will take 18 months just to pull the equipment out. let alone the personell

even Obama HIMSELF stated this....
"I've never said that troops should be withdrawn. What I've said is, is that we've got to make sure that we secure and execute the rebuilding and reconstruction process effectively and properly, and I don't think we should have an artificial deadline when to do that."

Senator Barack Obama (Democrat, Illinois)
During an interview on "Chicago Tonight" with Elizabeth Brackett
April 5, 2004

plus he has stated he want troops in Darfur...which is already in a quagmire civil war

plus he stated and has already bombed pakistan

plus it has been proved that Iran is a hot issue..the same issue that everyone said bush was lying about....hmmmm

there are alqada training camps in ethopia and somalia

korea is still a hot issue

hondo (Honduras) is heating up

we even still have troops in bosnia/croatia (former czech republic/ former yugoslavia)

ANYONE with a military background will tell you,,we aint going to be done with this for a LONG TIME

Many already have family there. Where have you been? And didn't you know it's a volunteer force. Many re-inlist multiple times because they believe in what they are doing.

Default Not realistically

I was hoping that a smarter, versatile, more calculating President would not follow the Bush plan that meant continuing to battle in a never-ending, ineffective, wasteful military campaign. President Obama has not disappointed. His upcoming new strategy in Afghanistan will reflect the more effective approach, one that signals an end to Cheney's bogus war.

With President Obama at the helm, the war will get addressed in the manner that it requires. He will make an assessment of how badly Bush's plan has f--ked up that region, then devise a strategy to enable those people to control their own country in the manner they see fit, while he gets our troops out of there.

When President Obama was sworn into office, it was quite evident that the days were numbered for this bogus war.

Very few have family there. Where have you been?
Make it very personal and it will change.
Put the lives of their families at risk and the votes will change.
Until then, not so much.
