People can safely vent their anger, direct attacks against others, belittle them, shame them or mock them, or profess knowledge and feel superior, all in anonymity.
Because people come here to bicker. We are not a good representation of America.
I disagree with that assertion. While we may represent a more extreme example of the constituency at-large, I believe that the "anger" posed on this forum is somewhat representative of the nation: Liberals still slobber over Obama, who can do no wrong in their opinion. Conservatives hate everything he stands for and the liberal ideology behind it.
I don't see much of anything different here than what's happening in the real world, except perhaps there are not enough Independents chiming in.

I pretty much agree, AeroGuyDC. There are probably thousands of other internet forums with thousands of outspoken members other than CD that are just as contentious as this one, with the same back-biting and name-calling as is seen here. Whether this represents the country-at-large, I don't know, as I think many people in said country-at-large are either totally apolitical or else they think the only important election is the presidential election. Then, once that one is behind them, they go back to sleep for another four years.
