I blame the evil corporations that engineered and perpetuate consumerism. They more people waste, the more they buy and the more money they make.
There's your boogey man, folks.
Right, no place for personal accountability is there. Someone actually holds a gun to grocery shoppers forcing them to purchase and again at home forcing them to throw out.
As long as someone else is to blame....Bush, evil corporations, why not blame the company that sends people home with paycheck enough to buy food to begin with, I suppose those are evil corporations too?
U.S. residents are wasting food like never before.
While many Americans feast on turkey and all the fixings today, a new study finds food waste per person has shot up 50 percent since 1974. Some 1,400 calories worth of food is discarded per person each day, which adds up to 150 trillion calories a year.
The study finds that about 40 percent of all the food produced in the United States is tossed out.
Meanwhile, while some have plenty of food to spare, a recent report by the Department of Agriculture finds the number of U.S. homes lacking "food security," meaning their eating habits were disrupted for lack of money, rose from 4.7 million in 2007 to 6.7 million last year.

When people are encouraged to waste and products are designed to be throw-away, you blame the people?
It's like blaming a 2 year old for pissing his pants. You have to teach the kid to do it in the toilet first; you can't expect him to just up and do it on his own.
It's the same for Americans. The powers that be would prefer to keep them as immature as possible, and therefore the easiest to profit from.
So they do.
I stand by my fingerpointing at those evil corporations.
8 years of Bush has made our mentality one of waste, while untold millions suffer from hunger.
While it is a shame, that we are one of the most wasteful people on the planet, it is neither the problem created by either a political party or any politician. It is the man in the mirror who is at fault.

Of course you stand by your finger pointing. You are a perfect example of blaming someone else rather than taking personal responsibility.
I don't believe adults are like 2 yr. olds that need to be taught not to waste. Such values are taught very early in life by parents. If one has not caught on to personal responsity and values, if one has not developed character by the time he/she is old enough to become an active consumer it is not the fault of corporations. It is the fault of the individual. To purchase or not to purchase are personal choices just as to waste or not to waste.
