It doesn't come out of my pocket, so far as I know. I won't even watch sports on TV, much less go to a game.

I don't know, thats why I watch College Sports. I would be just fine if all the pro leagues disappeared.

This was the whole point of my first reply to this post. We are talking about anything from tennis shoes, to the cereal you eat, to building materials, to medicine, to soft drinks. These are all just a FEW examples of items that atheletes get paid to endorse.
I've never bought anything because it was specifically endorsed by an athlete.

It's also interesting that pro athletes (or CEOs for that matter) aren't paid the outrageous salaries in other Western countries or Japan like they are here...

Default Why do we pay professional athletes so much money?

Because so many live vicariously through the ups and downs of their favorite teams. Some folks seem to wrap their entire identity in the colors of one team or another.

Bascially we don't the owners do from profits. Its the same i college sporst that people pay to see whether on TV or otherwise. that money goes tot eh colleges. the BCS is in fact a chamionship business arrangement and designed to display the best teams for profit. It always works best as far as profits if a major college team plays for the championship.hat ios really why tehy don't want a undefeated tonk-tonk state in the championship game. Its teh business of college sports and the big money involved.

This is a very good observation. I played football my whole life but I just don't obsess over it. Between Camps, practice and games in High school the last thing I wanted to do was watch pro ball on my weekends off. Every obsessed sports fan that I know never played any organized sports, maybe thats the problem.
