We just [MOD CUT/language] told you why. There is nothing requiring him to meet with them, so they can't do anything about it if he refuses.

Geez.

If I were in an accident I certainly wouldn't have been able to cancel a meeting with the police. I most certainly wouldn't even been granted a "meeting" with police.

The police would have "met" with me and I wouldn't have been given the opportunity to refuse.

WTH is up with this?
He is not a suspect of a crime, so he doesn't have to talk to the police or anyone else. He is only required to show his drivers license, proof of insurance, and registration.

It is a very strange situation though....looks like the wife tried to smack him with a golf club... Why he won't clear it up is beyond me. There is all kinds of speculation by now.

Florida law is same for you and Tiger.

In a story by USA Today, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes says that all Tiger is required to give is a drivers license, proof of insurance, and registration. He is not required to give a statement, but that is something that the Highway Patrol allows all drivers to do. Although it is highly unusual that a statement hasn't been given for a minor car crash, it has happened before.

Yes, it would. There is no crime. He hasn't been charged with anything. He hit a neighbor's tree and a fire hydrant. All he has to do is show his license, registration and insurance and take care of damages. If a blood alcohol was taken (and it probably was) and it came back negative, then all he has to do is make restitution.

Let's see.....do the police absolutely know your identity? They can check with the state if Woods has a driver's license and if the car is registered to him because they absolutely know it was him. While you are required to have insurance, there's no way there are financial issues with Tiger Woods or that he isn't insured to the max. Besides the costs, except for the Kobe Special, are pocket change for him. There isn't a person in the country who doesn't know all that. You, on the other hand, are an unknown who could be an illegal, have warrants out on you, could have been driving a stolen car, etc. They know there's no problem with those thing for Woods. You, on the other hand......

I don't think the police are looking for a statement regarding the fire hydrant ---- I think they are interested in knowing how Tiger ended up with facial injuries inconsistant with the car crash.

In other words, I think they are attempting to investigate domestic assault with Tiger being the victim.

How he is avoiding this ..... well, good lawyers can do a lot of things.

In the case of imminent threat or danger (as in the case of a robbery-in-progress, a shooting, or driving under the influence, possession of illegal substances or items), the police can make an arrest based on their own reasonable suspicions. Otherwise they need a warrant to make an arrest and a warrant to enter private property without permission of the owner.

In this case, they have zero evidence to obtain such a warrant, so they have to wait for the cooperation of Tiger Woods--or collect other evidence of a crime and submit it to a judge to get a warrant.
