When the lawyer defending Prop. 8 in California was asked by the judge, "What harm will come to society if same-sex couples are allowed to get married?", the lawyer's answer was, "I don't know."

If that's the best that same-sex marriage opponents can come up with, they're doomed to lose.

Re: our previous post where we mention interracial marriage bans (codified) had to be overturned, and interracial marriages be legalized by Federal legislation. Loving vs the State of Virginia 1967

A topic where interracial marriage is still being debated as wrong, producing defective offspring and racial segregation is the preferred route.

It's called freedom, and most Americans have a strong appreciation for it.

We could also look at the numerous nations in which gays have Civil Unions and see that it's working out quite nicely there as well...

I know, the U.S. simply MUST do it Canada's way...

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Why on earth would you have a problem with something that doesn't affect someone else adversely?

Do you hate freedom that much?

How would Civil Unions deprive them of their "freedom"?

Separate but equal? I thought we (well, the "activist courts," cause lord knows the "people" would still have it if they could) decided that wasn't cool a long time ago?

I propose that Gays have the same individual rights as straights. Where's the loss of "freedom"?

Bullpuck.... Said it before, said it a thousand times. Separate but equal in the Civil Rights Era involved physical separation and separate facilities that inherently led themselves to inequities.

Tracking the identical nature of two legal constructs is quite simple and the liberal legal system would be all over it like butter on a biscuit if they were EVER found to not be....
