I don't disagree with you. How far left is the big question. Healthcare for all and advocating homosexual relations are two very different leftist ideals.

I believe you'd be hard pressed to find too many liberal Christians leaders who will climb up on a pedestal and claim to be homosexuals (as an example), and expect to keep their leadership position. They'll get ran out of town pretty quickly by their conservative counterparts. In other words, its a tough row to hoe to advocate openly what the Christian God has said is wrong. Those people exist, but they are relatively few. Therefore I believe it to be more common for liberals, who openly advocate for homosexual relations, to not believe in God than a conservative.

What's Wrong With The Christian Right This is a quick read but still poignant. Stereotypes, useful but overused by any narrow veiwpoint are annoying.

One of my most liberal friends is an American Baptist minister. In fact, most of my liberal friends believe in the existence of, if not the Christian God, a God... the Socialist I live with among them.

I don't think liberal Christian ministers necessarily use their pulpit for political purposes at all. Nevertheless, many Christians support and participate in liberal causes. My cousin is a Lutheran minister. His daughter is gay. He personally supports gay marriage--his pulpit is reserved for the more traditional purposes of "teaching the gospel". It's probably like this for many liberal, Christian churches.

Great book. I cant totally remember if it was this or the other one I read where it's pointed out that there is a movement to have certain parts of the bible re-written to exclude statements such as the camel and eye of needle as well as adding direct anti-gay passages. Either way I liked this book.

There were catholic bishops involved in the writing of the senate health care bill which is why the wording on abortion funding was changed. They should lose there tax exempt status immediately.
