My daughter called last night to say she was rushing my sister's husband to the hospital. He had some kind of nuclear test yesterday and the doctor called last night and told my sister to get the guy to the emergency room. He has a badly damaged heart. He has no insurance! Why did he have a doctor? What was he doing having a test done? Why did the doctor tell him to go to the hospital? Those who want UHC claim he will not be treated because he has NO INSURANCE. He is still in the hospital! The doctor, the hospital and everyone else knows he has no insurance. He won't work. He is in his mid 50's so is not eligible for medicare. My sister only gets about $300 a month for SS. This just can't be!!

Nobody ever claimed that someone with an emergency wouldn't be treated. It's about the routine medical care that people without insurance can't get. In fact, the bogus claim that Obama wants to cover illegals comes directly from your story. No Dr. is going to stop and ask for the ID of someone having a medical emergency..

Anyway, try again.

**sigh** How can you get it so wrong?

Emergency rooms must provide emergency care. Trust me, he will be out on the street more quickly than someone who has insurance. The cost for his care will be included in the cost of everyone else's care and distributed to everyone who pays for health care out of pocket or for insurance....just as if we paid taxes for it.

Yes you can. You just have to pay for it. There are numerous sliding scale clinics here. And there are doctors offices that will charge a flat fee for year physical, well woman, etc. The fee of the one I'm looking at right now is 50 bucks including labwork.
I'm tired of hearing this crud. People have money for everything else they want - cars, houses, kids, pets...

See how much care an illegal even can get in this country + a ticket back home...+ sueing the hospital...later on.

Don't start to say how bad his situation is...if he didn't came her illegally he wouldn't have been at the place he was when he got the accident!

She is saying he didn't have health insurance but was able to have medical care in a NON emergency form. It's not that he went to the ER and got treatment, it's he had a doctor treating him before he went to the ER.

Walk into your local hospital's emergency room and tell them you would like a routine colonoscopy, mammogram or pap smear just as a preventive measure and tell me how it goes...Duh!

Should I dig up some links about the LA hospitals who have ambulance crews dump still-sick homeless Americans on the street, sometimes barefooted and still wearing hospital gowns? There are a lot more like that than like what you posted.
