There are two new films at the box office depicting poor black teenagers trying to escape their gritty urban lives. But only one of them is drawing criticism from many members of the black community.

Here is a question anyone new to this forum or thread should ask, WHY IS IT THAT SO MANY WHITE GUYS IN THIS FORUM MAKE SO MANY THREADS ABOUT WHAT 'the blacks' ARE UP TO?

A lot of you already know the answer. Anyone new to here whos not up on why the large number of 'fronters' here seem to be consistently doing that, ask some of the 'non racialist' veterans around.

the same reason why so many people make threads about democrat vs republican issues.

we're a country divided by...almost everything.
race (blacks vs whites vs hispanics)
political party affiliation (democrats vs republicans)
gender (male vs female)
sexual orientation (gays vs straights)
income (rich vs poor)
immigration status (legals vs illegals)
regional location (north vs south)
religion (christians vs muslims)
social status (the elite vs the little people)
age (old farts vs young wipper snappers)
hair color (blondes vs brunettes)

& so many other things...its crazy

Oh, get over yourself, Tindo. The OP's question is about 2 films that are racially significant and he's wondering about the response from black audiences so far. Sounds like a perfectly normal topic of conversation. If white posters never started such conversations, then you'd be whining about how "white folks don't care about black folks." Please.

I haven't seen either one, but condescending and patronizing feel-good movies where the white people are always rescuing the poor black people just don't interest me, and I can only imagine that if I were black, I'd also roll my eyes at this crap. As for the other movie, Precious, the synopsis sounds too depressing for me and I've had enough of feel-bad movies so I'll skip this one too.

Much as I hate Spike Lee for being a racist pot-stirrer, I have to admit to really liking Malcolm X and the performances by both Denzel Washington and Angela Basset were outstanding. It was inspiring, I learned a lot about a subject I had previously known nothing about, and Malcolm's character was complex and interesting. I can't think of any other "black" movie that I've seen and liked as much.

Because black people are interesting. Every black person I know who saw Precious said it was good; a lot of my female friends have decided to read the book after seeing the movie. I have no interest in seeing the blind side at the moment...maybe when it comes out on DVD

Among the other things that have people divided is the abortion battle.

Yep, the bastards have us nicely divided - - and conquered. When will people learn that the real division is along MONEY lines, not the lines of race, religion or any of the other listed us vs them divisions.

The wealthy have won the war. They've destroyed unions, thus workers have no bargaining power, shipped jobs overseas, and are doing whatever they can to keep people from having health insurance, pensions and social security.

Black people are not an "it" to be interested in. We are not some sub-form of the human species.

I dont disagree with you, actually. You are totally right.

I was getting at the more direct 'why are these people so focused on blacks in such a manner'?

How can you tell if its a good book when you 'see' it on film?

Best example = Half Blood Prince. Great book. Horrible movie. If you only see the movie, you would never know what you missed. Better example = starship troopers.
