It was written by a Republican strategist after California legalized same-sex marriage. Too bad the people who voted to remove same-sex marriage rights in California had no concern or awareness about the economic impact of their actions.
No one needs the word married, to throw a party, go on vacation, buy a ring...whatever.
Then let's eliminate marriage for opposite-sex couples too.
Aside from the economic benefits to states that legalize same-sex marriage, there's the sociological, psychological, and symbolic value to doing it. It matters a lot to a lot of people. Just because you don't see any value to it doesn't mean that it's not important to millions of other Americans.
Legalizing same-sex marriage increases revenue and creates jobs. If you're concerned about the financial shape of NJ, it would make sense to support same-sex marriage.
If you knew anything about NJ's financial straits and why we're in such straits, then you would know that allowing marriages between gays, polys, children, siblings and pets wouldn't help in the least.
Our politicians have much bigger fish to fry that effects all NJ'ians. Not just a small minority.
I think that the poster meant that gay marriage would help the bottom line for a few industries incl hotels, jewelry stores, airplane flights, caterers, photographers, musicians, bakeries, etc. when you think about what goes into planning a wedding, it would help those businesses that could use a good shot in the arm in these times.
So all of a sudden, if gays get the word "marriage" available to them, gay couples are going to crawl out from under rocks, get married and put on big parties? What stopped them before if they were so in love and so committed to their partners?
The expense of the paperwork? A lot less expensive that hiring a photog, booking a banquet hall and hiring a band...

a lot of the california couples had already had domestic partnerships and had been living with their partners for MANY years. Marriage is the only contract that affords these couples all of the rights, responsibilities and benefits for themselves and their families. wouldn't you be excited if you could celebrate your marriage with the one that you love and want to spend your whole life with? So many hetro couples just take it all for granted.

They just don't have the sand to tackle them.
so knock out this small "problem" first and then tackle the harder ones. this will come up year after year while you ppl complain about your high taxes, crime, etc, wishing that politicians would take care of those. Gays just like other oppressed minorities before will NOT accept 2nd class citizenship.
And you call yourself a liberal. Prison is where people get raped and murdered or sick with serious illnesses. These illegal immigrants want to work and have shown in record that they work hard. If anything they should be deported if they are caught.
Prison is where people who are guilty of committing a CRIME go to.
Your sympathy for the CRIME committed is of no relevance.
