1 Hear what the LORD says to you, O house of Israel.
2 This is what the LORD says:
"Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the sky,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
They cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter."
Let the excuses and rationalizations begin...
Maybe this:

Long before the advent of Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special meaning for people in the winter.
Quote:
They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return.
A vengeful, supernatural entity who was reborn on earth from a virgin (to demonstrate that sex is really dirty and shameful, who says Muslims are the only prudes?) and then rewards loyalty after death--seems like something out of science fiction or a mythical tale about the blood lust of the Romans.
I enjoy christmas decorations because they serve as a reminder just how much early European christians had to adopt pagan practices to force their beliefs on those they wished to subjugate.
It's also nice to see them all celebrating the solstice, even though they don't seem to know it.
Just another inane post by someone that doesn't have anything to do other than complain about Christianity. You obviously don't know anything about the Bible. That verse refers to idol worship. Nothing more.
The Christmas Tree exists because Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ and the evergreen tree represents eternal life.
It's sad that you've got nothing better to do than worry about what others believe. If you really knew anything about Jesus and what He sacrificed for you, you'd probably be a much happier person. You can keep trying to "debunk" Christianity, but Jesus is very real, and no pathetic post you put on the internet will change that. Many, many millions of people know this to be true.

I enjoy the Winter Solstice a lot. It is the best season of the year. I love Winter.

I once heard a christian tell me what a candy cane stood for, in biblical terms, and even saw one try to come up with a biblical based story for her kids regarding reindeer. None of this is biblical and pretending it is by making up a back story (and spreading it as Gospel) doesn't count.
There is nothing wrong with christmas trees but it doesn't really represent anything biblical except whatever meaning you want to ascribe to it.

Long ago, Christianity overlayed it's myths onto the substrate of pre-existing pagan celebrations.
The only real meaning that x-mas has is the mostly forgotten efforts of Dark Ages clergy to persuade pagans to adopt the Christian brand of mysticism if they'd slightly modify their solstice (x-mas) and equinox (easter) holidays into celebrations of the mythical Christ figure.
