It's not about learning who is gay, it's about history, which may include gay figures, but it's not about that exclusively.

On second thought, I might consider teaching kids all about Tammy Bruce, and make her blog required reading. She's a gun-toting Conservative Republican lesbian and she tells it like it is! (She hates the "gay movement" by the way.)

It is one aspect of the historic person and a potential role model for the student who may be gay oriented. as a mexican american growing up in texas, it was good to know about the heroism of civil rights leaders of the previous decades. it is the same for gay americans.
