They were dancing on Capitol Hill and in the John A. Wilson Building last week. Congressional Democrats approved the District's appropriations sans controversial riders, which had prohibited the city from enacting a medical marijuana referendum, implementing a needle exchange program and providing free abortions for low-income women.
D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District's nonvoting congressional representative, called the vote "historic" and said it ensured "greater democracy in the nation's capital." Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray praised "our friends in Congress, especially those on the appropriations committees, for bucking their colleagues who would continue to unfairly treat the District of Columbia differently from other states."
Neither Gray nor Norton mentioned Congress also killed a valuable program that allowed 1,700 low-income children to attend schools of their choice. Democrats refused to extend funding for the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program.
By their actions, they asserted it was fine to pass dope around District neighborhoods; encourage low-income women to become pregnant, then have taxpayers cover the costs for abortions; and use local and federal money to distribute needles in areas where young children might come upon them. But it's unacceptable to use federal dollars to provide high-quality education for poor children.

Does it get any more blatant than this? Liberal priorities are the undoing of this nation.
Each and every one of you ought to be ashamed to be associated with and supporters of the liberal establishment. Despicable.
The lesson is that Congress should butt out. The District should be able to spend it's tax money as it pleases. Every other political subdivision of the country does.
BTW we'll have a same sex marriage law by the end of the year too.

When one is at a loss for words and knows they can't argue the facts (you) then one attempts to change subject and pout (you also)
There should be no funding for murder (abortion) and no funding for needles
There SHOULD be funding for education scholarships
Quite funny how those whacked out *******s prioratize things

So does that mean you unfailingly support any and all social programs? If not, then i'd reconcile that you and I are on a level playing field. I do support many social programs. However, I also support pragmatism when funding those programs. In this case, there is something fundamentally wrong with a system that funds needles and abortions, but cannot find the money to support education for low-income children.
The fact that you don't have a problem with this in principal says alot about you as a person as well.

The point is that these are local issues and not the business of Northern Virginia, the US Congress or anyone else. Butt out.

As long as DC is not a state, which you should be accustomed to by now, then "butting out" is not an option. If you have such a problem with it, then you should step up and lobby for your cause. But for now, DC is not a state. Therefore, the issue is de-ranged priorities, not whether you feel there is taxation without representation.
Stop changing the subject. These priorities are screwed up and you know it. Or at least I would hope that you know it.

The issue is home rule and Congress is making the correct decision. With a little more deference from Congress we can put a $20.00 toll on all vehicles entering the city across Potomac River bridges.
