The Left had the exact same disdain for Reagan. And because of it they convinced themselves that he could not possibly defeat so brainy a candidate as Carter (all Dems are super smart, don't you know!).

Because it is like trying not to watch a bad car wreck, or one of those Youtube videos of some guy landing on his gonads, or hundreds of other pathetically entertaining human failings. You don't watch or ignore these things out of fear but morbid curiosity.

I guess you'd have to ask Bachmann or Palin why they keep doing things that make them look like they don't know what they're talking about.
FYI, people don't laugh at things they fear, if so then Americans would "fear"; The Simpsons", South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Looney Tunes, Crusader Rabbit and Rocky and Bullwinkle. They laugh at things that are genuinely funny, like the above cartoons, or things that are idiotic, like Jim Carrey. We realize that it's not polite to laugh at the truly insane, but when you keep putting them out there as "serious contenders" or "party leaders", we get to laugh not just at them but at YOU.
