In the first article, Loehle notes that many long-term reconstructions of climate are based on tree rings, but “There are reasons to believe that tree ring data may not capture long-term climate changes (100+ years) because tree size, root/shoot ratio, genetic adaptation to climate, and forest density can all shift in response to prolonged climate changes, among other reasons.” Furthermore, Loehle notes “Most seriously, typical reconstructions assume that tree ring width responds linearly to temperature, but trees can respond in an inverse parabolic manner to temperature, with ring width rising with temperature to some optimal level, and then decreasing with further temperature increases.” Other problems include tree responses to precipitation changes, variations in atmospheric pollution levels, diseases, pest outbreaks, and the obvious problem of enrichment that comes along with ever higher levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Trees are not simple thermometers!

It's not as simple as "warming = sunny and balmy". The science is far more complex, which is why there's so much contention. But it's the difference in water and air temperatures due to warming trends that create the ideal scenario for snow.
Please ... everybody. If you're going to comment on subjects that are usually reserved for people with at least Masters and often PhDs in a subject, please inform yourselves first. There's a lot more than meets the eye and spreading false assumptions only fuels the flame of division and prevents us from understanding the actual truth, whatever it may be.

If it is wetter = climate change
If it is drier = climate change

I am rather fond of being somewhat logical. Obama had to leave early the hapless Global Warming….er…strike that…Climate Change meeting because a massive blizzard was going to dump over a foot of snow on Washington, DC.
Into this horror, Obama is supposed to use a dogsled and snowshoes to trudge to Congress and inform them that we ought to send billions of dollars annually via a special carbon burning tax, to foreign nations so we won’t roast to death.
Holding off on this and waiting until there is a record hot day to yell this makes psychological sense. Doing this in a blizzard is madness.
Yes, we've been through this before. The term "global warming" no longer applied when the Earth stopped cooperating with the fanatics and their ridiculous predictions.
So they had to come up with another term....Climate change....which would then encompass every natural weather event, natural disaster and extreme in hot and cold weather patterns, drought, flood, hurricane, etc, etc, etc.
So now they have all their bases covered....if it snows in DC in December, climate change, if you have a 60 degree day in January/February...climate change, if you have a record breaking hurricane season...climate change, if the predictions of a record breaking hurricane season don't come to fruition...climate change, if they sound the alarm in July about sea ice melting...climate change, if the sea ice replenishes, 3 fold, in December....climate change.
NO, increased snowfall and temperature shifts ARE NOT indicative of global warming.....they are a perfectly natural event that has been happening forever.
The question is how will they melt the glaciers to avoid an ice age? Man's arrogance is unbelievable.

I don't understand why you all speak with such authority on a subject that you know nothing about outside of a political context.
Study the science of ice, sun refraction, and temperature and you might begin to move beyond your political ideology into a fuller understanding of science.
