Louisiana, Hawaii and Florida home to the happiest Americans

updated 46 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - People in sunny, outdoorsy states — Louisiana, Hawaii, Florida — say they’re the happiest Americans, and researchers think they know why.
A new study comparing self-described pleasant feelings with objective measures of good living found these folks generally have reason to feel fine.
The places where people are most likely to report happiness also tend to rate high on studies comparing things like climate, crime rates, air quality and schools.

The happiness ratings were based on a survey of 1.3 million people across the country by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It used data collected over four years that included a question asking people how satisfied they are with their lives.
California is a sunny state. And Nevada is close to the bottom and the sun shines there over 300 days a year while Washington is above both California and Nevada and the sun shines there maybe 3 days a year.

I don't see how that makes sense. I don't know too many people who think California has a bad climate. The study seems odd to me.

Correct. Here's one from 2007 which says the exact opposite about Florida being a "happy" place:

If I had a million dollars and could live anywhere I wanted I would choose California over any other place.

To each his/her own.

Hey there Southern Californian here, and i do second that emotion.

Happy most of the time, until i hit these posts lol

I dont agree with we are the happiest. If we were the happiest people would be so rude and grumpy and hateful and ticked off all the time. Maybe more north

That is relaxing till you gotta go back to dealing with all the rest. The rude ticked off people. The terrible traffic. The high cost of living

South Fla is stressful and not a friendly place. I cant wait to get out of here. Hopefully by 2011 I will not be in this state
