John McCain walked from the Senate to a TV interview over a mile in a howling blizzard because the streets were filled with drifts and not passable. I did not vote for McCain but at his age, I gotta give him the "Real Man Of The Week" award for that! I guess POW camp did toughen that old guy up!
Or maybe it just makes him a damned fool for risking his health like that. A fall at his age could put him in a nursing home.
Depends on the temperature and actual weather conditions. "Blizzard" conjures all kinds of things in the imagination. Blowing snow and drifts at 28 degrees is a whole different animal than blowing snow and drifts at 0 degrees but both can be defined as blizzards.

I live in Michigan I know about blizzards. It's the ice and unknown stuff that's underneath the snow that will trip you up and make you fall. And blowing snow will cut down your visibility the same way at 28 degrees as it does at 0.

Actually, he bailed on a TV appearance claiming to be on his way to Washington for important Senate business, even though he didn't leave NYC 'til the next day. To his credit he didn't shuck and jive when called on it, his response was "I screwed up"

Thanks. I didn't remember the circumstances exactly, and I didn't feel like looking it up.

The main reason I remember is he appeared on The Late Show after the election and seemed a completely changed man, almost as if he was glad to have it over with and be going back to the Senate.

The sad part is that you remember the event at all. I'm a conservative and I don't recall nary a detail of this episode. Partisanry runs deep in this land when bailing out on an appearance remains in the brain of the opposition more than a year later. Just....wow.
