Old Joe, a "reporter" living in Austin. Texas, I presume.

Is he the same guy who wants to secede? Hey, if he's successful, you guys could re-institute slavery and have zero unemployment!

I left California largely because of the cost of living. It's insane. When I moved to Las Vegas, I rented a three bedroom house for less than I was paying for a one bedroom apartment in California...

When I moved, my girlfriend came with, as well as her two kids, her mother and one of her sisters. That's six people (consuming, paying taxes, etc) that left the state. Also leaving the state was my business, and the dollars that my California customers spend with it.

One thing not mentioned in the quoted portion of the article is that Texas has no personal income tax. In California, it can be as much as 10.3%, with most middle class earners paying between 6% and 9.3%. That's a pretty heavy burden, considering that it's on top of the federal income tax and the cost of living there is so high.

We're considering another move - primarily to get into a different time zone (we service customers nationwide and getting up as early as we do sucks ). Top on our list is Wyoming, and Texas is also in the running. Both have no personal income tax. Coincidence? Nope...

Exactly. If you want an example of what NOT to do, look at California. So...why we are doin' it is beyond me.

My bad I always thought it was part central America, which is party of North America. Central America is the southern part of south America. Mexico isn't considered Central America though. Thanks for informing me.

I pay a total of approx 32% income tax myself, can't say I'm overly burdened by it.

You've still got it bas-akwards. Central America is between South and North America. Better still, go find a world atlas, CIA is a good place to begin.

Here you go, an even better site: http://lib.utexas.edu/maps/americas.html

California’s hop’n ya’ll’s gunna bail us out! Thanks in advance.

‘Stupid should hurt’ doesn’t seem to register on the radar. You’d think that Californians, of all people, would understand the concept of Darwinism.

Oh Texas is great for corporations!

They don't have to provide insurance for their workers.

Hence the highest uninsured rates in the Nation!

Uninsured: Highest Percentage in Texas, Lowest in Mass.
