Those pictures of ornaments could have come from anywhere. They look like something you'd see in a tabloid rag. I personally think this is a juvenile prank. Even if they are actual, which I very highly doubt, it's not like Obama personally inspected each ornament. Give it a rest, put your pitchforks down for a few days and enjoy the holidays, however you choose to celebrate them!
"Why does Mao always get a free pass amongst the radical left?"
Who is this radical left of whom you refer? I ask the question because when the radical left was in full bloom in the late 60's thru the 70's Mao, and the Communist Party of China certainly wasn't not beyond criticism if not outright derision by Stalinist and Trotskyites (i.e., the radical left). As for the American left, such as adherents of the likes of Michael Harrington (Democratic Socialist of America), or the much maligned Saul Alinsky who once stated: "Quotes from Mao, Castro, and Che Guevara... are as germane to our highly technological, computerized society as a stagecoach on a jet runway at Kennedy airport." adoration for Chairman Mao were few and far between.
So, I repeat, who is this "left" to whom you are referring?
I've got news for you sonrise. Lefties do not need to be radical to find this acceptable.
These are the same people who thought that a statue of The Virgin Mary made of feces was high art.
I don't blame Obama for the individual bulbs on the tree, however, he did choose an a-hole to decorate it. That I do blame him for.
