The issue with Fox and Time Warner is about the renewal of the contract which ends on December 31st. Typically cable companies like Time Warner pay a fee to a network in order to show their programming to cable subscribers. The contract is up on December 31st and Murdoch wants to charge Time Warner more $$$ in order to carry the various Fox Cable Networks and Time Warner is balking at the increased costs. However, another twist to it is that Murdoch also wants to charge Time Warner to air its broadcast station. Broadcast stations have been traditionally provided to cable operators for free, and the cable providers would only be charged for the cable stations that they air.

So what the argument is boiling down to is the fact Murdoch not only wants to increase what they charge Time Warner to air his cable stations, but he also wants to charge them for airing their Broadcast station, which is typically provided for free.

Hey, it's the free market.
If Murdoch wants it to be shown, he can make the price reasonable.
If not, it's not TW, it's Fox.

nice to see you are still well informed on current events and make posts based on factual information...

BTW, I'm dropping TWC tomorrow when I get u-verse installed. It has nothing to do with this, but I will say it's good timing. Probably going to be difficult to get an install appointment soon.

Fox/Murdoch is getting greedy. If they get booted from TW Cable, their revenues will fall off appreciably. Advertisers won't pay the existing fee structure to access a much smaller audience. Murdoch's trying to bluff when he's holding a weak hand. Not much of a poker player.

Besides, if Fox disappears from my cable, I'll never notice. I'm sure not willing to see an increase in my fees to keep Fox in the line-up.

Doesn't matter either way to me. I dropped Time Warner over two years ago for overpriced service and terrible customer service.

From Time Warner, December 18...

With TV networks like Fox demanding price increases as high as 300%, Time Warner Cable asked our customers for their feedback – and we heard you loud and clear.
There's more at the link, including customer response. I voted to 'Get Tough', but I'm really just looking for a reason to switch to DirecTV.
