Huge Bonuses for Failed Fannie, Freddie Mortgage Chiefs

The two chief executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could get paid up to $6 million each for 2009, despite the companies' dismal performance this year, which cost US taxpayers more than $100 billion.

Fannie's CEO, Michael Williams, and Freddie's CEO, Charles "Ed" Haldeman Jr, each will receive $900,000 in salary, $3.1 million in deferred payments next year and another $2 million if they meet certain performance goals, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday.

The pay packages were approved by the Treasury Department and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which regulates Fannie and Freddie.

My oh my. Two failed institutions, but only one-sided outrage.

It's horrible to give taxpayer-funded bonues to a failed private enterprise, but it certainly isn't a problem to give taxpayer-funded bonuses for a failed governmental enterprise.

How shockingly convenient. I never would have expected such false outrage from liberals.

At what point do we simply quit trusting the lunacy coming from Washington?

I'd like to see a media person get Barney Frank's and Chris Dodd's opinion on this BS.

Unbelievable. I am astounded by this, but I find it funny that the anti-capitalists will just keep their mouths shut.

Why should liberals bash Fannie/Freddie? They are basically government entities, and our benevolent government can do no wrong. These shadow federal employees deserve every dime, right?

Good point. Liberals will not show up in this thread. It's impossible for the left to protest something the Obama Administration is responsible for. Simply impossible.

didn't Obama go on 60 minutes not too long ago and talk down about bankers who "didn't get it" and were taking bonuses even though they got bailout cash? What a hypocrit this guy is. He's not the POTUS he's the POS.
