Depends upon the prevailing winds of the world's peoples. It is possible that we were admired for better purposes during that time. Perhaps in a time of Soviet domination of eastern Europe freedom was more cherished.

Even though I do not agree with his politics, I'd have to agree that he was the catalyst.

You're making a lot of assumptions. The bottom line is you don't like Obama, and so you assume that if we're admired by other countries, it must be for bad reasons.

It's not that hard to realize that we were hated during the Bush years for a reason....The world embraces the new face of America, because the majority of the planet thinks the GOP ideology sucks. That's the reality, the majority of those on the planet find the Neo Cons arrogant, ignorant, violent, and dangerous.

I'd gladly trade places with the citizens of say...Norway...or France.

Any country with universal health care and low unemployment rates is where I want to be. Norway has a pretty low unemployment rate at the moment.

::sigh::

Why don't I like Obama? Is his administration similar to Reagan's? Have we not moved into an era of government control of business and healthcare? Is that not what America represents right now in the world? A move towards government control? It is not just Obama. The Bush administration did the same only in different sectors. I am not singularly opposed to Obama; just the policies that rob initiative from the people, or put power into the hands of government.

C'mon, hasn't that shtick run it's course already? Aren't you being a little disingenuous?

Please explain this government control.

It seems like now private enterprises have overtaken our government and not the other way around.

Of course that's how many of the people on the hill want it. They both talk a good game of being "for the people" but when any type of common sense measure comes through Congress, it doesn't have a chance. Republicans try to spook people with "big government" scare tactics only to reward their buddies with government contracts and such that end up costing the taxpayers money.

Democrats try to say they're on the side of the middle class but they sell us out just like the Republicans.

To me, it's clear that the world doesn't care whether or not the U.S. is more "socialist" or not. The main factor is that they saw Bush as a bully who wasn't interested in diplomacy and they see Obama as someone who is interested in getting along with the rest of the world. I think they also admire the U.S. for electing a person of color.

Nobody likes an arrogant bully that thinks diplomacy is a form of weakness.
