WASHINGTON (AP) — BP (BP) said Tuesday that it will shut down 100,000 barrels a day of its Alaskan crude oil production for a "few days" after discovering a water pipeline leak Monday at Prudhoe Bay.
Analysts say the temporary loss of output should not have a dramatic impact on world oil markets.

After the announcement, light sweet crude for June delivery was down 62 cents to $65.65 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

London-based BP says the leak was discoveerd in a 12-inch pipe that collects water separated from the oil and gas it produces.

It's also real strange how a major oil company would want to avoid the catastrophe/legal implications that would crash down on them if a major disaster happened because they didn't take all precautions with the leak.

I mean, I agree oil companies probably do pad a bit in the season, but in this case, I trust BP. BP is also one of the leading oil companies to invest real $ in alternative energy solutions (and that ain't just because I believe their commercials, either)

My stepdad worked for BP on the north slope for 20 years and he told me that BP knew 10 years ago that the pipeline has weaks spots in it and would not shut down and fix it.....
