2009 was the year we exploded our national deficit and bailed out every bank and every "too big to fail" business. This bought some time as we kicked the can down the road. Sooner or latter we will pay the piper and feel the pain..,,it could be as soon as 2010..we shall see.

Well, after the worst economic decade in history, it's going to take some time to turn things around.

(And people were talking depression in 2008, before President Obama won the election. The stimulus, weakened though it was by the GOP, has put off the worst of the fears.)

The whole past decade was about the U.S. digging it's financial grave! Financing two wars isn't cheap and that started in 2001 and is still going strong. Ever since 9-11, the U.S. has been spending money and going further and further into debt. Add the housing and banking crisis onto that and it's clear we've dug our grave. Sooner or later we're gonna have to lay in it!

Actually the economy of the first 6 years of the Bush administration were good. To blame this on the GOP is juvenile. I don't put full blame on Bush, Obama, the Democrats or Republicans. The economy is too complicated and big to do that. Normal business cycles are the major cause of downturns. They happen about every 6 years or so and the stimulus is going to cause many more problems down the road.

It's all part of the master plan, and is much deeper then what you've listed. It's bigger then just left-right issues. People need to start waking up, and stop feeding their mind with all the propaganda that is the news media. We are being enslaved by corporations, bankers and secret societies, right before our very eyes. Do some research and wake up, before it's too late. History repeats itself over and over again, and we never learn....God help us all.......

Moderator cut: no personal attacks!
This OP was about how our national debt is leading to major trouble. The GOP (who should have never abandoned their small gov origins) allowed a 700 billions monstrosity to pass but the democrats wanted more. Do you think this money grows on trees? It's either financed by China/Japan by the selling of treasuries or it's printed which just weakens our currency and economy as a whole.

And before you give me the classic response about all the Repub spending under Bush-I think that's deplorable as well!

I don't know about all that, but the left and right have been working overtime to sink the ship for some time. Until we have a true conservative president or Libertarian we'll continue the same descent.

Are you saying that these uber-powerful corporations think that it's in their best interest to sink the economy?

For many years now, they haven't been thinking past their nose. Their game seems to be take the money and run - and to hell with their country's longer term well-being.
