Along with Canada, there is up to 3 times more oil available than in all of OPEC. A great deal of it under Federally protected lands. It would take a decade to develop those fields and technological advances to do it efficiently, but if we ever have the inclination or are forced to do so, those fields could certainly be opened. And, they probably will. Who knows, at some time in the relatively near furure, there may actually be people living in Montana.

Enviro-Nazi's are the death of this nation, not OPEC.

If we can get the oil shale fields out in Colorado up and running we would make a lot of money and reduce our reliance upon the Arabs too. Win/win.

Why should we use up all our oil first and then beg the Middle East for theirs? Wouldn't be more prudent (and diabolical ) to suck them dry and then use the rest of ours?

By the time we get the technology to get the oil out of the shale, we will likely have the technology to get oil from algae and we wont have to worry about shale.

we will have to worry about envirofreakfreaks who will make some stuid claim that oil from algae is going to kill some desert geko or some other bull crap.

We have lots of oil. The Fed. gov. has been buying up land to protect it from us.

Not more oil shale myths.... prehaps you should read about EROEI and flow rates before posting such nonsense.
