isn't it a good idea to reduce the amount of crud we pump into the air?
As much as MSM and environmentalist would lead you to believe there is an ever increasing amount of pollution that is not the case. According to the EPA Since 1980 the six principal air pollutants have been cut by more that 54%.
Being both spekptical and confused about the alleged global warming issue, I sat down and broke-out the calculator a few months ago and did some math. If you take the age of our planet (about 4.6 billion years) and then factor in the very, very brief time that mankind has been able to accurately track our weather patterns andglobal temps. (maybe 100 years?) I reckoned that the comparison was roughly equivalent to having a 50 year-old man go outside for 10 minutes on his 50th birthday and observe the weather. And then making a prediciction on it's "latest pattern" using that miniscule timespan.
This would seem to hardly present a credible test period.
And yeah, down here in normally sunny and tropical Austin, TX, we've been 10-20 degrees below normal for the past month.
Industrialization doesn't seem to bother pigeons. They are all over the most crowded cities, cities with lots of tourism, meaning buses, taxis, limos, vans, traffic, traffic, traffic. They thrive on that nasty air. Adaptation, or is it not that bad? You would think a bird's delicate respiratory system would not be able to survive all that. Remember canaries in mines?
I am confused on this global warming issue. It was 5 degrees here in my part of KY last night. Had a major ice storm last year about this time. We have had four seasons here for as long as I can remember. Sometimes above normal temps and other times, normal or below temps. Shouldn't it be getting WARMER here all the time? I have a simple theory as to why we are still having four seasons and temps going up and down like normal...
GLOBAL WARMING DOESN'T EXIST!!!
The climate is always changing. the question is is it doing so because of man .
since the recent emails have proven the scientist manipuated the data and computer models i highly supsect global warming or cooling happens because of mother nature.
my own theory says things get warm ice melts into the ocean cooling us off. when we cool down it gets warm enough to start the melting again
We actually have a 400 thousand year climate record in the form of ice cores drilled in Antarctica and Greenland ice cap. I have my personal experience of observing 50 years on weather in the Northeast US. I have observed the winters are actually warmer and dryer than 50 years ago. Therefore, I conclude that at least this part of the globe is getting warmer.
The OP's question is not dumb but drawing a conclusion without evidence certainly is.

1. You were right about your thread title.
2. While there is reason to question global CLIMATE CHANGE and certainly the drivers of it, attacking the concept with stuff like "it was 5 degrees here" tells me you have put no energy into understanding the issue and educating yourself.
For example, go google "north atlantic conveyor". If the earth were to warm several degrees, Ireland would ICE OVER. This is a fact and has happened before.
Really, I read this post and give you the same look I'd give someone walking into a bar and demanding they stop serving beer because too many bears are inhumanely killed to make it.

I looked at recorded times in mens 100 yard dash over the past century. I reckon that according to current trends that in a thousand years or so they will actually be running it is less than 0 seconds thus traveling backwards in time.
See, assumptions are where people generally go wrong....as is a failure to actually read about the topic and then draw informed conclusions.
Todays google phrase is "ice boring". But wait, reading is boring...just flip over to ESPN because those sciency shows will just put you to sleep.
In the northeast, the 70s and 80s were colder and snowier than the late 90s to about 2007 or thereabouts. Back in the 50s and 60s you had cold spells and snow storms 1958 saw one town nearby hit with 5 feet of snow, and not lake effect snow because that never gives us more than squalls. They seemed to build this whole global warming theory on about one decade of warmer temperatures along with fudged numbers and data that was cherry picked. The last 2 or 3 years saw cooling down in the northeast, summer and winter. Both sides seem to confuse weather with climate change.
What made me abandon the global warming premise, aside from the obvious political and financial motivations of those promoting it, was the evidence that solar sunspot activity was most likely the biggest influencing factor, as well as volcanic eruptions.
Obama got sold a bill of goods on this, but we can ignore the global warmists and eventually Obama will move on to other issues and mess them up.

1. Good to read up on sunspots and volcanic activity. Major drivers. (see what Krakatowa did to Europe etc.)
2. It's not based upon 10 years of warming, not sure where you came to that conclusion.
3. I can assure you that the earth has warmed greatly over the past several thousand years as evidenced by Wisconsin no longer being a glacier. By looking at ice corings you can see various cycles and it appears that there is a warming surge in the past 100 years. I am uncertain as to how much green house gasses contribute relative to sunspots etc.
The fact that so many people in this thread have done SO LITTLE reading on the topic and yet have such strong opinions...is obvious. The far right and left, like on many topics...just fall into party line. However, don't worry...neither party is that different from the other in action.

CO2 is greenhouse gas and not a pollutant or "crud" as you put it.
And WHY have these numbers fallen?
Hmmm...GOVERNMENT regulations put in place in the 70's. That's right. The "invisible hand" that conservatives believe in would have done squat to curb these emissions.
BTW, 50% of a gazillion is still half of a gazillion.
Also, worldwide, emissions ARE increasing, hence the "global" in global climate change.
