A lot of talk of private property in this thread- your local government can take your 'private property' away from you through condemnation or eminant domain if they want to put in a strip mall or other development-

Since 1935, few Americans own private property.

FYI - real estate and private property are mutually exclusive.

All "takings" under eminent domain have been of real estate held with qualified ownership, and as such, not protected from being taken.

Don't believe me - - - go to your nearest county courthouse law library and look up the delegation of power to tax. It will say estate, or some variation of "real and personal property". Which, by definition, is not synonymous with private property, absolutely owned by an individual.

See this

My favorite "zing" - go to the county recorder of deeds and ask them if they only record real estate. When they say, yes, thank them, and go your merry way.

You should investigate your own state's laws on the topic, but I suspect that they will not be much different than what I found in Georgia.

Official Code of Georgia Annotated states:
O.C.G.A. 44-2-1. Where and when deeds recorded; priority as to.
" Every deed conveying land shall be recorded in the office of the clerk of the superior court of the county where the land is located. A deed may be recorded at any time; but a prior unrecorded deed loses its priority over a subsequent recorded deed from the same vendor when the purchaser takes such deed without notice of the existence of the prior deed."
The word "shall," on first reading, gives one the impression that it is mandatory. End of discussion.

But there's another side to this word play...
" There is no Georgia statute compelling the recording of a deed."
- - - Encyclopedia of Georgia Law, 8 A, p. 265, Sec. 132
Is this not contradictory?

What's going on?
" Sole purpose and effect of recording of deed is to afford third parties constructive notice of the existence of the deed.
- - - City Whsle. Co. v. Harper, 100 Ga.App. 151, 110 S.E. 2d 561 (1959)
So, the recording of deed is only for giving constructive notice to third parties. Is there another way to give constructive notice?

(Hint : Check your county newspaper of record for the LEGAL NOTICES section.)

One thing that disturbs me about Socialism is that when a worker finally sees that his money is going to those who don't work, and they live as well as he does, he will realize it does no good to work, so he will stop. When all the workers stop working no one will have money. When you are forced to work for no pay what is that, if it's not slavery?

Well, maybe the US should consider what Greece is likely to do to try and solve their govts. overspending on so many Socialistic causes......like these Dems. and Progressives have managed to do to California and soooo many other states and cities across America already.....and still desire to.
Yep.
The US could show an effort to repay our debt with China by giving California to them right now.
I'm sure they would be pretty happy with this idea.
It's only the 7th largest economy in the world.....or it was.
They could then, proceed to seal it off all the way around with the likes of another Great Wall.
Every Liberal/Progressive, socialist, communist, Constitution-hating citizen can or should be forced to live there too and "volunteer" their "free" time.....18 hours/day.....like it or not......to building that big, 'ol wall that can separate US.........oh, so nicely.
One or two more states and we won't owe ANYBODY a thing and we could all be closer to our own version of Utopia.

ONLY one vote for slavery so far?

Where are all the Progressives?

I expected more votes for slavery, but I guess those who desire slaves don't feel much like sayin so.

A great illustration of the evil deception used by socialists is the HCR.

The Health Care Reform bill is a Trojan Horse to find new revenue streams, expand government power over the nation, and delay the inevitable collapse of their fraud.

Reform was never the issue.
The bill does not address the root CAUSE of skyrocketing medical costs.

Government is the CAUSE.

Who else but government created:
[] inflation,
[] malpractice tort abuse,
[] "defensive" medicine,
[] administrative overload (which requires an office staff - at our expense),
[] restriction and regulatory abuse,
[] taxation (which migrates to the retail price for buying care), and
[] bureaucracy costs.

In those pre-Socialist days (before 1935), folks without insurance could afford buying medical care. And those who could not, had access to charitable institutions operated by religious and philanthropic organizations.

But thanks to over 70 years of national socialism, the burden of paying for all the parasites has effectively destroyed the private charity system... for our own good. [sarcasm flag off]

If HCR passes, it will only take a few short years to destroy the private medical care system.
Because you will see the government dictate the payouts, the allowable treatments, and the disqualifications that will effectively end the best medical treatment system in the world.

Bush and Obama are both right around 80 IQ, from what I remember and what I'm seeing now. And I doubt everyone who dislikes Obama is dumb, since both the Republicans and the Independents are 100% against the health care "reform" being proposed. Only Blue Dog Democrats like/approve of him/think he's smart. As someone I know said, I guess he's supposed to be the first honest politician to come out of Chicago...

The whole debate about Socialism is very sticky and marred by peoples uninformed views. But I for one would rather live in a society where around 30% of my pay goes towards taxes but where I know without a doubt that everyone is getting schooled properly as well as has equal access to good health care. Already, a lot of individuals in the States have some pretty heavy taxes and we still don't really see reaping across the board.
