At the end of the day what he said was very offensive but he didn't mean to be offensive. I've been hearing about this for the past few days and think I've formed enough of an opinion that has evolved since say Monday or Tuesday.

The first reaction is shock and disgust. Now I'm still offended but he has apologized and hopefully learned not to use the word negro, at least in situations where he can be publically quoted.

Now our friend Michael Steel has been in the news, running his mouth as usual, saying that Reid should step down particularly since Trent Lott had to step down when he said that Strom Thurmond should've been elected President. They're two different things though at the end of the day though. Trent Lott was basically saying that this country would be a better place if a segregationist had been elected to run this country. Now, one could argue that Mr. Lott was just honoring the man and may have been overlooking the segregationist part for Mr. Thurmond's other redeeming qualities but I just simply don't believe that.

Mr. Reid was being unfortunately very honest. If Obama was dark skinned he probably wouldn't have been elected. If he didn't speak "proper" he definitely wouldn't have been elected. That's just the truth of the matter. This country has come a long way but has a long way to go on matters of race. Even within the black community lighter skinned people have an advantage.

This was a statement made over a year ago and he has apologized what more can he do?

Continuing to follow the slave master's agenda is modern day racism. The only reason why light-skinned blacks were elevated in the eyes of the white people is because most times the white man was the sperm donor who produced the initial light skinned child by the black woman. The light skinned blacks primarily were only permitted to work in the master's house because of guilt from the slave master (white man). Many dark skinned blacks were still used to watch the children of the white slave owners. Let us advance some years forward and we have the Aunt Jemima look on the scene, something happened where we no longer wanted to promote or show the images of light-skinned black women or men due to the understanding that this skin tone here in America was usually one of a person that came from a family where the white man had raped the black woman, so it was not longer acceptable to show these images. The first acceptable black woman on TV to have her own show was Julia, and many years later here comes Oprah. Each one of them are dark-skinned black woman to keep the statuesque regarding the different shades of black women. Look at the history of television and you will see the ongoing pattern. The light skinned woman today is on some news outlets, recent fashion models, and of course she is prevalent in the music industry. To continue to elevate the superiority of a light-skinned black is just a painful reminder of where this skin tone originated from here in America and it does not serve well for the ones who were the initial culprits of a foul and demeaning crime which they were allowed to do because the black woman was owned by him.
