no its not racism, its realism, realism that people look at people based on looks, actions, and backgrounds

look at all the people that were afraid of JFK because he was catholic, or all the people from the left that were fearmongering at mitt romney because he is mormon

the facts are that the general population would not have voted for President Obama if he acted like a rapper punk gangster, they would not have voted fro him if he wasn't well spoken as he is, and he spoke in ebonics...these are FACTS.....it would not make him a different person, but the APPEARANCE would be drastic....the people voted for obama because he was a well spoken, articulate, educated statesman..not a street hood...and that has nothing to do with color....

and negro is ok as a term,,,please dont use wiki which is only an opinion,,, negro means black in at least a dozen languages, negro is also the shrt term for the SCIENTIFIC term of the black race...negroid.................................... .....now if he had used nigg(er)(a), then yes that is definatly racist........

The Republicans, in that same vein, like to portray themselves as the party of religion and morality and the Dems as being heathens.

Both are untrue and both are wrought with fallacy and hyperbole. That was my point.
My response to you was that the democratic party claims to be open and "racist free" but you can be a racist, make racist comments and the democrats don't care at all. But if you are a racist the republican party will not be tolerant of your displays of racism. Sen. Byrd could never be elected as a republican because of his racist past and his publicly racist comments. Its almost a requirement that a democratic politician bring their bigotry and racial baggage with them to Washington, and even use it to influence policy decisions and legislation.

Now wait a minute lefties. He makes much political sense. For whatever reason, Reid is in trouble for re-election. He is behind any single Republican who is trying for the nomination. If that ends up as the case the Democrats will lose the seat, so Kos says that he should get out so the Dems have a chance to hold the seat. This makes lots of political sense since Reid is finished as far as his constituents are concerned.

I really think that more and more Dems will figure this out and put pressure on him.
This is an excellent insight.

It is after all POLITICS. If Reid is still electable, he will be supported so as not to lose the seat to a Rep. Otherwise, they would throw him under the bus if they had a better chance to win. Both parties do this.

Again, his comments don't matter for Dems or Reps because we know how they will already vote. If he alienates the independents and is unelectable then the dem leadership will cut the cord.

You've got it backwards, Jadex. I'm not calling Republicans racists for being Republicans. I am pointing out that when the Republican Party made a clear effort at recruiting southern racists by adopting racist policies (the well-known Southern strategy), it worked, and attracted racists into the party.

But that's not what was said. You got it completely backwards. The post you quoted says that the racists switched from being Democrats to being Republicans. No where does it even suggest that they were being referred to as racist simply because they became Republicans.
