What is the education level of Haiti? The education of the population plays a big part in things. I'm willing to bet that much of the Haitian population isn't well educated.

Here's the problem:

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has the highest illiteracy rate of any country in the western hemisphere and is far behind others in the Caribbean.

Schools in Haiti are not free. Teaching is done in French, when the vast majority of the people (and all of the poor) grow up speaking Creole. Due to the influence of the churches (Catholic largely) there is little to no family planing and the average number of births per woman rivals sub-Saharan Africa. Vast majority of people have no access to clean water/sanitation. Little government structure and more NGOs per capita than other poor countries.

Research CIA and US gov involvement there.

The US created Ferdinand Marcos, as they did with Duvalier. btw OP, DC elites support Baby Doc now....both sides.

But we're catching up to Mexico in levels of corruption. It's part of that "Hope and Change" we were promised.

There are other reasons:

National IQ Scores - Country Rankings

But our mass immigration policies are also going to narrow that gap as well.

Stop it, please.

The "evil" US also "created" modern Japan, Germany, S Korea, Italy and so on. ALL those places we've had boots on the ground as well as "CIA" stuff in the last 100 years but, ALL are doing well in 2014.

Here's the problem:

Poverty and illiteracy (two problems in Mexico and South American countries) must be the reasons why Obama is pushing to fast track Haitians to be allowed to enter the US and be with family.

I guess Obama thinks that creating a majority of the US population that is illiterate and poor will make the US a great country, as long as the people stay poor and illiterate and play follow the leader.
