How can anyone argue that a person can be ready to face the mental and physical load of a battlefield, yet the idea of showering under the same circumstances as in most gyms is out of the question?

You are trivializing the subject. We are not talking about showering after a pick up game of basketball.
Rediculous. If there is a problem, ie: someone coming on to someone else, then deal with that directly. Military personal need to work together and help keep each other in line, it's part of the deal.
It's just the nudity that people have a problem with, and that goes beyond sexuality. What next, seperate bunks? Seperate units?
Bathrooms and showers are made for the body..so if you have a penis you go into one, if you have a vagina you use another..trying to seperate based on something that may or may not be going on in someones head is silly.
No. When I served in the military, homosexuality was grounds for dismissal. A version of "don't ask, don't tell" existed at the time. I didn't ask, and no one told--unless they WANTED to get out. I'm sure that a person serving today can be processed out if he (or she) claims to be homosexual. Up to now, if you were homosexual, you were closeted--I have no doubt that closeted homosexuals have served their country with pride, without anyone being the wiser.
It's bad enough that they decided they can put additional facilities on board to give women "special treatment". They should not have to do the same for homosexuals. I can only speak for the Navy, but our facilities were broken down into separate stalls. You're not going to see "anything".
I doubt many gay people in the military will use the showers marked, "GAYS ONLY" or whatever stupid sign they put up. It will put them at risk for physical harm.
I think that argument is a red herring. If what you're saying is true, then an openly gay person would be at risk for physical harm whether he or she uses a separate shower or not. Besides, harming another soldier is obviously grounds for punishment.
2. Those showers could become like some gym showers or some public bathrooms where some people used them as motels rooms.
So you assume that the majority of gay soldiers won't be able to stop themselves from having sex in the showers? Oh, the stereotypes....
