BERLIN (Reuters) - A wheelchair-bound German stunned police when they pulled him over for using the road and found he was 10 times over the legal alcohol limit for drivers.
"He was right in the middle of the road," said a spokesman for police in the northeastern city of Schwerin Tuesday. "The officers couldn't quite believe it when they saw the results of the breath test. That's a life-threatening figure."
The 31-year-old told police he had been out drinking with a friend and was a little over a mile from home when a squad car stopped him as he passed through the village of Ventschow.
That's both sad and funny at the same time... and 10 times the legal limit?? Sheesh!
Speaking of which, they could bust a whole BUNCH of drunk people in wheelchairs here (San Francisco). There's this one guy who always hangs out on 9th, and asks people to push him to Market St... I feel sorry for him, but the city-girl in me has to say no! Anyway, the cops pretty much leave them alone, so I guess drinking & wheeling isn't a big crime here.

Hey Giz, don't give O'reilly and his fans any more ammo. They already think Frisco is a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.
The law does not say that you cannot drive a car drunk, only that you cannot "operate a motorized vehicle", which includes boats, golf carts, and a powered wheelchair.
In the "spirit of the law" however, the guy in the wheelchair should only be cited if he is acting recklessly (going full speed into a crowd of people, etc). A car is different because 1 foot over the line can = a serious accident.
Maybe if the guy was 10x over the limit they nabbed him because that was the only way to get him to the hospital (and to some help). That is a high enough B.A.L. to kill you that day, and even if it doesn't that shows you are a person who is slowing killing yourself with alcohol.

LOL and touche. Call me weird, but I love all the "dirty parts" of San Francisco, since it gives us some character... and even the drunken bums in wheelchairs are cool, which is why I feel sorry for them! Everyone in this city gives it the flavor we're so proud of, even our "less-desirable" (in the eyes of some) citizens.
