The success of the stock market is not necessarily a success for the American people. I'm not saying that I want the stock market to fall, just that...Wall Street is playing games. They make money coming and going, whether the market rises or falls. I do not trust what happens there, not at all.

"A Republican win would be a positive for the markets since it would mean increased potential for gridlock in Washington," said Carmine Grigoli, chief U.S. strategist at Mizuho Securities USA in New York.
Gridlock in Washington = positive for Wall Street = good for business.

Given the recent history of a proactive approach in Washington in bailing out Wall Street, automakers, etc., I wonder if Wall Street would have been so giddy at the prospect of Washington gridlock in the fall of '08 and spring of '09.

Gridlock would have also staved off the bailouts.
