I think politicians and people in general need to redirect their focus of attacking people and start tackling problems. Also, to quit focusing so much on positions and instead work collectively to find compromising solutions.
The only problem is this is WAY more difficult than it sounds. I think both sides need a lot of work on their ability to negotiate as well as build up motivation to be willing to do so.
Can't we just all get along? Really, I am so sick of hearing nothing but arguing with all of these stupid labels we stick to people: Democrats, Republicans, progressives, conservatives, libertarians, liberals...Don't you people realize that this is why our country is quite literally going to **** right now? Every time a new president comes into office the people have a renewed hope that things are actually going to get done, but instead it's the same old stagnant lame politics as every 4 years. Why do we waste out time bickering and name calling when the country as we know it is on the verge of collapse? In fact, I almost hope our economy does completely collapse and that everything falls apart because we truly need to learn a lesson.
Why can people just swallow their damn pride and unite to make some real beneficial changes? No one addresses any real issues anymore. Here we sit arguing about political parties, gay marriage, and abortion, while our sinking ship of an economy continues to go under the water. Are people that ignorant to realize that we are on the verge of an all-out collapse? When we combine all of the very serious problems that we are facing right now, we are in completely uncharted waters. We have never been in as bad of a position as we are in, and we can either unite and do something about it or keep arguing until it's too late. Remember the band that kept playing on the Titanic until it was completely sunk? Well America is the sinking titanic and instead of a band playing it's people arguing over pointless issue and problems of the ego. They will keep up their bickering until their heads are under the water.
I read the thread title and was happy that someone else thinks along these lines. Sadly, the responses have gone the route of partisan slams and political jabs at each other's party affiliation.
All the money people donate to the two parties goes towards brainwashing them. The Monday Night Raw quality of politics is entertaining to our primarily idiotic population because serious issues are incomprehensible. The reason why people don't want to solve the problems and work together is because they've been worked into a frenzy and they hate each other! Red states vs. blue states, etc. Divide and conquer.
As long as everyone continues to pay for their enslavement by this two-headed monster and opt for entertainment instead of solutions, the powers that be will continue to succeed at removing our participation from the process.
One solution: Work to solve the problem locally and ignore the fireworks overhead. Resist any attempt at intervention or erosion from all current established entities. Continued focus is more important than resorting to using any part of the present system. Time to be creative.
I think most people can agree NAFTA, WTO, and other disastrous policies need to go.
OP, I think most of your message can be sent to those in Congress. Most Americans want the two parties to work together. Of course you have some who get all batty when the Republicans work with the Democrats and vice versa. I think there are some common ground issues most Americans can agree on but if they benefit us, do you REALLY think Congress is going to pass bills that benefit us? It seems like any bill in Congress that benefits regular American citizens gets put on the burner while the corporations get bailed out time and time again.
Of course when the little people are helped, some on the right want to call it socialism.

Because when you hold out your hand in friendship your opponents take that opportunity to spit in your eye, derail every attempt at reconciliation, and try to make you look like an extremist so they can win elections in 2010. In other words, everyone has to go along with the unity otherwise it just damages the people trying to unite and benefits those 'sticking to their guns' so to speak.
I think you're describing republicans on that note.
Look who got us into the wars in the first place with lies & fear to America.
I think you need to change that subject party to Republicans.
I think that poster failed at sarcasm.
