Nice mis-characterization of Libertarianism....right there on par with "the democrats are all socialists".

Characterize it accurately then.

Libertarianism is a rich political philosophy, its not something I can characterize in a few sentences. Regardless, the idea that Libertarians as a whole advocate the end of all taxes is inaccurate to say the least. Undoubtedly they argue for a small government, but the vast majority would agree with some level of taxation (especially for things like roads, etc). The vast majority of our tax dollars do not go towards providing for essential infrastructure like roads, rather the military-industrial complex, social security, welfare, and so on.

Regardless, California is not guided in any sense by Libertarian thinking. It is not really guided by any political philosophy, rather special interests, welfare, etc. Its just highly amusing that a state with one of the highest levels of taxation has perhaps the worst financial problems compared to other states.

The original author of this piece is an idiot.

2. Pro-wealth distribution, and affirmitive action at state universities

Affirmative action at the UC campuses is contrary to state law. Reference Proposition 209.

3. No cell phone use while driving. This includes texting or calling.

This is a stupid argument. Using cell phones is a major distraction. Texting while driving diverts yours eyes from the road. Furthermore, cell phone use isn't banned in California. A hands-free device is required, as it is in most states now.

4. High taxes (just raised witholding state income tax by another 10%, and sales tax is near 10% in many parts of CA)

Most places have sales tax rates from 8.25 to 8.75%. While there are locales with sales tax rates above 9.75%, they are the exception. One could also argue that California has lower property taxes than a lot of states, which slam homeowners with the bulk of the tax bill in some states, like Oregon.

6. Free speech "zones" have been enacted by some cities like Santa Cruz and others

This is nothing unique to California. Washintong DC, Philadelphia, Chicago, and the State of Louisiana are just a few other examples where you can find free speech zones.

8. Irvine has restrictive paint and roofing laws for beige colors and HOAS.

You will find restrictive ordinances, covenants and HOAs (Home Owner Associations) all over the country. Notably, Colorado, Florida, and throughout the Northeast.

9. Don't even think about trying to build a home on the ocean.

There isn't anywhere left that is buildable land along the coast to build a home.

10. In state tuition for anchor babies

Again, this is found throughout the entire country. Remember, anchor babies are US Citizens. However, there are numerous states which allow illegal-aliens to pay in-state tuition if they graduated from a high school in that state.
11. Plastic bottle tax (deposits)

12. Traffic (very limiting to FREEDOM!)

And how is the traffic situation in Miami, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Denver, Atlanda, New Jersey....

13. Crime and gangs

And how is the crime and gang situation in Miami, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Denver, Atlanda, New Jersey.... Oh, and Detroit?

14. Antonio Villargiosa, Mayor of LA, stated it was his mission to spend tax money for one million trees" to beautify LA"... an assualt our wallet when we have bigger problems.. We know that when LA property owners are prosperous- they will beautify themselves by investing in their own property!

This is the best example of pork barrel spending you can find? What about the two senators from Mississippi who slipped in $700 million to move a railroad because the locals didn't like where it was located?

15. $800 minimum business tax for all LLC's even if they posted a "net loss". That's even worse than if they were to impose an $800 minimum administrative tax on welfare receipients.

I'm having difficulty making sense of that one.

5. Big government in big debt... issuing IOU's to state contractors

6. Free speech "zones" have been enacted by some cities like Santa Cruz and others

7. Huntington Beach is passing a law banning beer games in bars

I'm not even going to bother arguing with all of the whining/complaints...the great thing about our country is that you're welcome to leave at any time- there are other states.

I LOVE this state--warts and all. I just choose to live life and not obsess with frickin' plastic bottle taxes and bans on "beer games" in bars.. I couldn't care less about shooting off a gun in a range with a required license..boo hoo. Oh, and so what if you can't build a house on the ocean...I can tell it certainly doesn't affect someone like yourself anyway.

Really, life's too short to get tangled up in silly issues that on a day to day basis don't really matter if you're happy with life in general. Fact is..nobody cares about your stupid complaints.. it's your life and you're welcome to find happiness elsewhere if it pleases you...Iowa for instance, (gay marriage allowed there now!). Good luck.

As if this most insane, out of control and unconscious bunch of idiots that make up this ridiculous consumer driven, dominant culture needs more guns.
Good god.
2) Affirmative action helps those that are qualified but got a bad shake ... it levels a very uneven playing field ... an uneven playing field due to people like you!
3) Talking on the cell phone impairs driving to a degree equivalent to a legally drunk blood alcohol level and texting while driving doubles the risk. Do you realize how many people have been killed because of driving and texting?!! (other people ... not the ones on the cell phone! ... go ahead and put your own life at risk but when you're on a cell phone in the car, you're messing with me man and that's where you can take your "freedom" and _____________________ !!!)
So ***** your cell phone while driving!!! a million times. I am so sick of selfish and ignorant and entitled people like you. Yeah, entitled. What right do you have to talk or text on a cell phone when it endangers peoples lives?!!!
Good god again.
6) what the hell?
I'll let somebody else address the others but, yeah, whatever.
You do not know what true and essential freedom is. You have the mistaken notion that freedom means being able to do whatever the hell you want. WRONG!
This stupid ting will not let me give you another rep. Probably because they know that I would very likely give you like 12 or 13!

Famous libertarian catch-phrases (true statements from one of my ex-bosses)

"Why should I pay for schools? I don't have any kids..."
"Why should I pay for roads that I never drive on?"

To that I would answer...

"Why do I have to pay for a hospital? I'm not sick"
"Why should I pay for prisons? I've never committed a crime"
"why should I pay for a sports stadium? I don't like sports."

A major tenet of Libertarianism seems to be the desire to smoke pot and own a gun, both of which are already legal in California anyway.

Those who identify with western rancher traditions of self-sufficiency and hard work usually don't identify themselves with Libertarianism, but those guys are the image every Libertarian wants to compare himself to.

If not for affirmative action, our universities will be packed with Asians and Jews. Affirmative action at least gives white trash the chance to go to college.
