Let's take the words "welfare recipients" out of that statement. Are you still for mandatory drug tests? Are you for taking kids away from ALL parents who test positive for drugs? Even upper middle class parents? Which is where most of the drug problems are in this country.
What would be the purpose of drug testing everyone? If you are taking federal money you take a monthly drug test and be issued birth control pills, simple as that. And yes, their kids should be taken away if they test positive. There have been too many children who starve to death because their parents are on a week long heroin or meth binge. Using money that is supposed to be supporting you and your kids on drugs is an epic fail.
And regardless of how you feel about it, it is simply wrong for a parent to be using crack-cocaine or the likes while on welfare or not.

Drug testing is not all that expensive, a simple dedicated MS at your state and federal offices would do the trick.

I don't care.. That has nothing to do with what I said.
And the Lt. governor said nothing that we did not already know, although he may have taken the movie Idiocracy a bit too seriously..
To me, welfare is a privilage of living in a prosperous and benevolent state. If we are going to give someone welfare, then why shouldn't they actually show some semblance of responsiblity and see how their child is doing in school. Some of you are acting like he said to put them in chain gangs.
Like Camping said, most everyone has sympathy for the working poor or the disabiled, but someone who is able bodied/minded should work, somehow, someway. Period.
He compared poor people to stray animals, which is an absolutely asinine comparison to make.
I would like to see those drug test include prescription drugs among middle class parents. I know some of the most dope up people ever all middle class big house living in baur supporters. Remember rich boy Thomas Ravanel look him up if you dont youll see what the republican party of sc is all about

You can't punish a child because their parents are irresponsible.
The main problem here is the lieutenant governor of South Carolina talks like a bigoted fool! Another shining example of a Republican! There is no excuse for the things he said.
