If Tea Partiers were backing independent candidates, I would believe that they're a growing independent force, but since they appear to be backing mostly Republican candidates, are they really going to make any long-term impacts?

Tea Partiers are from every political affiliation, not just republicans.

First let me thank you for being respectful in your question by not addressing the group with other terms.

I think many tea party members are looking for independents populist. I think more candidates in that vain right now are republican. I know many members who would prefer a third party. i am one of those. that said it would mean the reelection of Obama in 2012. As long as there is at least one house republican I Do not see a problem

If Republicans can convince voters that they're the party of populism rather than the Democrats, I'll have to congratulate the Republican Party for their public relations skills. That would be one amazing transformation from how they've been perceived over the last couple of decades.

Not only that, they spent several hundred thousand dollars to push a RINO Republican Scott Brown to Senate when there was also a Libertarian candidate running. Why didn't they support the libertarian? They spend their time preaching about how they oppose Dems and RINOs in Congress, and support 3rd parties, but when it comes time to vote, they pull for the RINO. And now they are arranging a 'hurt locker meeting' and will charge $500+ dollars for anyone who wants to participate. I wonder which RINO will be put in Congress with that money. I am glad I threw in my Tea Party the towel last year.

I think they are a growing group that does not feel tied to a particular party, but still have to face our broken two party system and do what they think is best.

Since people usually ONLY get to choose between a Democrat and a Republican of course the tax tea protesters would gravitate to the Republicans. The Democrats are destroying this country! Hopefully as they grow they can force a better candidate.

I'm a disgruntled Republican.

Both parties have failed us.

I would love to see a third party candidate BUT as we have seen, the media will not give anyone outside the two parties any air time so it would take an all out effort on the ground.
