LONDON (Reuters) – One of Britain's top legal advisers during the run up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq said on Tuesday he believed the military action was illegal.

Michael Wood, the most senior legal adviser at Britain's Foreign Office until 2006, told an inquiry examining Britain's role in the war a United Nations resolution authorizing the use of force had been required to make the military action lawful.

"I considered that the use of force against Iraq in March 2003 was contrary to international law," Wood said in a written statement to the inquiry.

"In my opinion, that use of force had not been authorized by the Security Council, and had no other legal basis in war."

We all knew it was illegal. The British public took to the streets to protest against the invasion over and over again. We were ignored. Democracy died in February 2003 in this country.

The Dutch courts have come up with the same conclusions. Unfortunately nothing will come of it. The Chilcot enquiry is simply yet another whitewash . No chance the government will be tried as war criminals. "Quelle surprise" ... You only have to see what it took to get someone like Pinochet indicted and nothing really came of it after all. Being Prime Minister renders you immune to just about anything.

No accountability. And most of his party lacked the guts to oppose Blair even though most strongly opposed the war too. It makes you want to retch.

Blair will come out of it smiling. And his pockets will carry on swelling with public engagements... They made him Peace envoy to the Middle East for Goodness sake ! Talk about the most inappropriate post for him....

Then why did Joe Biden and Hillary both vote to send our troops to war?

Why did Obama vote to support the war at first then switched to not supporting it only after he decided to run for office?

So is Obamas War in Afghanistan illegal also?

Are the drones he is ordering out illegal then?

He should have sent in his personal army and stopped it. It is kind of like when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee Indians in the administration of Andrew Jackson. Jackson sent in the army, "deported" the Cherokees, and told the Supreme Court to send in thier army to enforce thier decision.
