From the Orlando Sentinel:
Quote:
NASA's plans to return astronauts to the moon are dead. So are the rockets being designed to take them there — that is, if President Barack Obama gets his way.
...
In the meantime, the White House will direct NASA to concentrate on Earth-science projects — principally, researching and monitoring climate change...

Some additional info on this:

"The $4 billion that NASA spends yearly on human space exploration will now be used for what NASA and White House officials called dramatic changes in rocketry, including in-orbit fueling. They said eventually those new technologies would be used to send astronauts to a nearby asteroid, a brief foray back to the moon, or the Martian moons."

I hate being hyper-critical but it's worth saying (from the article):

However, officials were quick to point out the failures of the Bush administration...

I am highly skeptical of any authors who exhibit BDS and blame Bush.

The White House plan was short on details, such as where astronauts would fly next, on what type of rocketship, or when...

Short on details. Where, what, when and how are questions you probably want to answer when cancelling one program in favor of starting another.

The previous NASA chief, in selling the old moon plan, had even called it "Apollo on steroids." The rockets were based on space shuttle boosters.

It's frustrating as it seems the authors are disparaging the Ares design because it builds off of old technology.

But the Orlando article states,

In cancelling the Constellation program... NASA will look at developing a new "heavy-lift" rocket that one day will take humans and robots to explore beyond low Earth orbit.

No doubt building off of Apollo technology. Who the hell reinvents the wheel, especially in rocketry. That is exactly what the Constellation program was doing, Supporting Space Exploration from LEO to Beyond: Ares V: Supporting Space Exploration from LEO to Beyond.

Share with us all the great things that Dubya achieved with his exploration of Mars.

Forgive me, but I don't think any private corporation can compete with the power of

Had you looked at the article, you'd have read, "However, officials were quick to point out the failures of the Bush administration's moon program.

Since you are obviously a BDS troll, share with us your hatred of Bush.

Don't forget that Obama took a swipe at those who oppose Cap & Trade as "denying overwhelming scientific evidence of climate change" in his SotU speech and has also included "Cap & Trade" as a source of "faux funds" to prop up his budget.

Arrow Obama did an about-face. Surprising? Of course not.

Just another example of how he doesn't live up to his promises and can't be trusted....

I am staunchly against ending any space exploration or moon missions of any kind. NASA must press on with future plans. They must. If Barry is smart, he'd be better off just to leave the thing alone.

Cap And Trade will not pass. His budget is therefore a lie. Shocker.

Leave space exploration alone. When we are the only country going broke by going green, we will need some place to go.. after the wealthy countries of China, India and all points Asian have distroyed the air from excessive coal plants.

As to forcing NASA to study global warming: What an insult to NASA, a real science agency, to study a faux science.
