Of all the economic statistics this one drives the direction of elections the most.

On election day 1984 Unemployment was at 7.2% and Ronald Reagan soundly defeated Walter Mondale.

If on election day 2012 Unemployment is 7.2% will Obama be reelected?

I don't care who the republicans put up to run against him. ANYONE with a heartbeat has got to be better than what we have right now.

3 years is a long time away, so a lot can still happen. If the election were held this year I don't doubt that Obama would be easily defeated. He's a perpetual campaigner with 0 leadership experience and it shows.
