but most are posted by the same people over and over, just like many of the posts on other subjects are posted by the same people or same group. I still think it is a very small group. Of course you are right, there will always be a few. Those few will never change their sick minds.

I can see where you are coming from. You are right....some people will never change. Think this subject hits a little close to home for me as I've felt discrimination in my field about being around kids (boys). I worked nine years supervising kids in treatment type centers and still had issues with certain work places because they still held onto these false myths. I'm glad though that most people are starting to see that gay folks aren't out there molesting children at alarming rates. Hopefully this will disappear for good in a few years.

That (I bolded) is the only reason homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. NOT because it is not one. it has been a grave mistake.

Interesting post draggingcanoe...though it doesn't explain the Canadian experience one iota. The rest of the world doesn't do something just because America does. Case in point Canada has gay marriage nationwide enshrined in our Charter, for more than 5 years now.
America doesn't.

NARTH??? LOL!- they are always whining on about the APA (both of them)- mostly because both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association reject their practices as unethical, non scientific and harmful. That revisionist myth they keep spreading that homosexuality came to be removed from the DSM just because gay activists disrupted meetings and that homosexuals have taken over the APA is totally ridiculous. They always seem to neglect to mention that the main reasonwas because of the wealth of empirical data that showed that homosexuality had no pathology and therefore did not meet any of the criteria required to be classified as a mental illness.
NARTH are an anti-homosexual fringe group of conservative religiously-biased psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and lay people who "claim" to be secular. Yet Joseph Nicolosi one of the founders and presidents of NARTH, is a conservative Catholic who makes statements like: “We, as citizens, need to articulate God’s intent for human sexuality” “When we live our God-given integrity and our human dignity, there is no space for sex with a guy.” Nicolosi also served as spokesman for the far right Christian organisation Focus on the Family.
Many of it's members call themselves "ex-gays" and many have degrees in divinity or theology. You don't even have to have any professional mental health qualifications to be a member of NARTH, just as long as you agree with the ideas of it's leaders and pay your membership fees - Unlike professional mainstream organisations like the APA with over 150,000 fully qualified professional psychologists who must adhere to ethical guidelines and codes of practice.
NARTH believe that homosexuality is a mental illness (despite all the empirical data for the contrary) and that homosexual men are homosexual because they had a distant cold unloving father and an overprotective or domineering mother. (this conjecture first postulated by Freud around a 100 years ago is a little ...shall we say old fashioned, ignorant and prejudiced? There is zero empirical support for that claim anywhere in the published peer-reviewed literature)
I'm serious...That's what they believe. So to "cure" homosexuals, male therapists hug the clients (in a non-sexual way of course ) using "touch therapy." or the client sits in the therapists lap being held and caressed. All those "ex-gay" male therapists hugging and caressing their male clients? Sounds a bit hincky to me.
(Christopher Austin who taught seminars for NARTH, was convicted for sexually assaulting his clients and got a ten year sentence. )
Another NARTH leader, psychiatrist Joseph Berger, is a member of NARTH's “Scientific Advisory Committee,”. He wrote a paper encouraging school students to ridicule gender variant children. He said: “I suggest, indeed, letting children who wish go to school in clothes of the opposite sex–but not counseling other children to not tease them or hurt their feelings,” and “On the contrary, don’t interfere, and let the other children ridicule the child who has lost that clear boundary between play-acting at home and the reality needs of the outside world. Maybe, in this way, the child will re-establish that necessary boundary.”
NARTH has zero credibility with any of the mainstream professional medical health organisations.
You can find the full 2009 report by the APA here and read the actual report for yourself instead of the misrepresentations by NARTH. NARTH gets a number of mentions. No doubt that is why NARTH are falling all over themselves trying to claim that the APA (and the 150,000 members who are qualified psychologists) have been taken over by gay rights activists. Laughable really.

So ....
1/3 have "some sense of control" over their homosexual attractions but may still engage in same-sex sexual behaviour.
1/3 refrain from same-sex behaviour and their desires are diminished but not necessarily gone. (abstain from having sex)
1/3 remain with a homosexual or bisexual orientation.
So where's all this success changing from a homosexual orientation to a heterosexual orientation? It's appears to be 3/3rds unsuccessful in changing homosexuals into heterosexuals.
That's....gee...100% failure rate isn't it?.
