It's not a bad word. It served it's purpose back in the day.

The word Negro was used to refer to a person of Black ancestry prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s. The appellation was accepted as a normal and was used by those of Black African descent as well as those of non-African black descent during the eras prior to the Civil Rights movement.
Interesting, isn't it, that the Irish have many names for Italians, and vice versa; Polish jokes, Krauts, Limeys, Spics, etc.
Seems like "white people" label to put down or control not just negros, but everyone that ain't them.
Some White people. And it is obviously apparent that those who choose to go there are coming from a place of fear, ignorance and generational prejudice.
It's not their fault.
A lack of education and parental guidance is not the fault of anyone, yet with that said..society should not suffer due to the shortcomings of those who are lacking in education and socialization skills.

Slavery was alive and well before white Europeans engaged in the slave trade with Africa. btw African blacks sold blacks into slavery. Conquering nations used slavery long before the African slave trade.

Blacks themselves owned, bought and sold slaves.
In Africa also, tribes would enslave members of other tribes.
Slavery is not only a 'white' practice.
