"Absolutely amazing poll results from CNN today about the $787 stimulus package: nearly three out of four Americans think the money has been wasted. On second thought, they may be right: it's been wasted on them. Indeed, the largest single item in the package--$288 billion--is tax relief for 95% of the American public. This money is that magical $60 to $80 per month you've been finding in your paycheck since last spring. Not a life changing amount, but helpful in paying the bills.

"So, two thoughts:
"1. The Obama Administration has done a terrible job explaining the stimulus package to the American people...especially since there have been very few documented cases of waste so far.
"2. This is yet further evidence that Americans are flagrantly ill-informed...and, for those watching Fox News, misinformed."

My wife and my sons haven't seen any of that extra money in their monthly checks yet. When does it begin? Is it only Democrat voters who get that money? I am sure they would have noticed the $60 to $80 if it had been there. The worst part of this is that my wife is one of those thousands of teachers who he saved the jobs of and all she saw this year was a cut that had to come to save her job. Somehow I think he has done a really poor job of explaining that "help" to the teachers of our town.

When you actually look at what the stimulus has done - saved state and local governments from collapsing, fixed infrastructure, funded teachers and police to keep communities stable, provided MASSIVE tax breaks, etc, etc..., it's impossible to argue that it hasn't helped or that it's some blind liberal grab-all.

The general consensus amongst non-ideological economists is that the stimulus has kept us from going up to 12-13% unemployment.

Unfortunately, most people are rather ignorant and get their view of the world through biased commentators who are on 24 hours a day. It's tough for an administration to control the message when there are so many lies in the media determined to distract people from the truth.

The "real" unemployment rate is between 17-20% when one includes those who are no longer filing for unemployment or have been out of work so long they have given up looking for a job.

It is tough for the American people to discern the truth when the White House is controlling the message via the MSM and while so many lies are coming out of this administration and Congress alike.

Serious Delusianne, I want you to contemplate something for me, the numbers - d'anne - the numbers do not add up.

Our population is around 300M and we have a $288B in bailout. If 95% of us are getting these bail out funds, then most of us will be receiving $1K checks - and that's simply not going to happen.

The stimulus included 288 billion in tax cuts over 2 years (2009 and 2010). The second largest tax cut in US history was the Bush tax cut. The most it cut taxes over 2 years was 231 billion in 2004, 2005.
