Not like this popularity contest will mean anything during his term.

Just pin it to 85% and leave it there until 6/2012 when the campaigning starts for the 2012 elections.
I thought Obama was campaigning for 2012 already. He sure won't wait that long to begin. He started in january 2007 for 2008.

It's mostly because technical fields typically rely at least partly on research funding from private organizations, rather than leeching off NSF or other government backed agencies. The ones who primarily get funding from the latter are better afforded the luxury of their delusional socialist utopia. I gave up a lucrative job in industry to return to my studies, so my exposure with the dog eat dog world better prepared me for the challenges of dealing with the liberal nitwits in academia.

Don't you know that poll numbers are meaningless when they go up? They only count when they are not in Obama's favor.
Ohmigod, Facts I have been so unhappy with Rasmussen for reporting Obama's rise from -17 approval rate to -3 all this week but they did it anyway. Today they show much of the post SOTU as being worn out with -7 and I am happier than before, with them. They do a great job of printing the truth about their polls and even when they get better they print them. Of course, their daily poll numbers aren't considered as fair as those of the others who keep him around 50%. Did you know that Rasmussen has never had him lower than 46% on their combined poll? They have even had him above Gallup some weeks. Polls aren't very important and if it weren't for the fact that there are fewer Dems than Indies and Reps he could get re-elected easily today.

I think you have been getting your information from someone not involved at Rasmussen. For instance, they call in the evening so as not to miss all those who work days. They do miss the night workers that way, though. Your talk about land lines, time of day sounds too much what I have read on many left blogs. Yep, I think that you are either misinformed or uninformed about these things.
Take a look at Rasmussen's history, they are the only poll that consistently have Obama in the red, even FAUX News has him higher than Rasmussen....credibility goes out the window when Rasmussen is mentioned.

Also note that Reagan didn't inherit TWO MAJOR WARS along with the WORST economic crisis since the Depression when he took office.

I would say that put Obama at just a "slight" disadvantage to Reagan .... don't you think?

Also, the Iranian hostage crisis ended, and American hostages were released on Reagan's inauguration day, which helped Reagan right from the start.
Why do you keep posting that Harry Truman popularity rate and talking about Obama and Reagan? Somehow it seems that you are trying to prove how unpopular Truman was in his day. Now people know he was one of our best ever, but he wasn't progressive so maybe we better not try to compare him in the early 50s with the Obama of 60 years later. In case you don't understand that let me tell you that a President that looked just a bit communist which is progressive-lite would have been run out of town on a rail in Truman's day but that doesn't hold today.

How would I know? I'm one of those doctoral geeks! Then again, I'm also in my 30s so between then (my 20s) and now, I grew a brain.
They won't allow me to rep you so I must say that it is about time someone told THEM this. I wonder how many of those post-grad people are now profs in colleges whose eyes never opened. Poor puppies just never became sighted.

In school, anything lower than a 63% was an F. To quote the creative minds at CNN, "Just sayin'"

I have tried to stay away from you but this time just can't. Look at Rasmussen's history in the last two presidential elections. They came the closest to the real numbers of the outcomes in both of them. Many pollsters say that to go with Rasmussen is the best you can do.

Yeah they realized the obvious and didn't want to look like the fools they really are.
Btw it was only in the last two weeks prior to the election that they became realistic.
