Question, how many of you supported or voted for a complete smoking ban on all public places, without exception and without permitting business owners to choose for themselves?

Shoudl be interesting to see how many voted or supported for that, but are all bent out of shape over Obama's suggestion/advice.

How does this pertain to this topic whatsoever?

Interesting that we have so-called conservatives whining that the President made a Conservative statement such as during hard time people should not be blowing their money in Vegas. But the really funny part is that these same so-called conservatives are too stupid to know they are fighting against the ideals they are supposed to stand for simply for a another chance to attack someone they obviously hate, meaning they are either nothing more than hypocrites or are too stupid to know what they are whining about. But then again these are the same Socialists that whine about government socialist programs and ideas and yet expect the government to fix everything while some are using socialist programs themselves. This latest whine fest is right on par with their typical agenda to whine about anything and everything the President does from whining about him putting his shoes on his desk, to how many times he mentions himself in a speech. Sad part is they think they are fooling others into their camp when in reality it is only their fellow sheep that are drinking the koolaid of hate they are handing out.

Oh, yeah - that's just terrible. The nerve of the guy, trying to get people to act responsibly.

Grow up, people. The President didn't say that you shouldn't go to Vegas, or spend money in Vegas, or have a good time in Vegas. But if you're trying to save for college, don't go to Vegas and blow a lot of money.

It's just common sense, an increasingly difficult concept for some to understand.
Thanks for introducing the concept of nuance to this thread. Obama is far too intelligent that he talks in nuanced language, as is apparent from the actual quote above. But of course, the idiots who populate this forum and elsewhere who feign offense at Obama's speech also think nuance is a type of sauce you put on your barbecue. The problem is not with what Obama said. The problem is with the low IQ of his "offendees."

Because of ridculous basis of justifications for anger being made by some of the people in this thread.

I for one think Obama is right on that one (I can't believe I said that! )

An education is better than flashy lights, jiggling boobies, hangovers and empty wallets. (Although come to think of it, maybe college isn't that different than Vegas after all )

But he isn't you or my mommy and oversteps his bounds when tries to be. That isn't the president's job.

I just read that same story on Yahoo and found it funny. There is a reason why it is called the sin city. Gambling in Vegas has probably ruined more lives than Obama's words ever could. Nor did he say wealthy people should avoid Casinos, but obviously those who can't have it all and thus have to decide what is more important in life. Nor has he told anyone to stay away from Vegas. One can still enjoy the desert around it

Maybe the city, especially the big-mouthed mayor should do something to create a more diversified economy in his city.

Places that depend of tourism are always subject to economic problems. Look at places like Egypt. Whenever there is a suicide attack, the hotels are empty, the local economy breaks down etc.

Las Vegas is a patchwork quilt. It contains the largest variety of people I have ever had the pleasure to know, and/or despise. Such people can be found anywhere if one is willing to look. There are rascals everywhere. If I go to a fancy hotel, I have learned to NOT touch anything in the "snack fridge." Over the years, I have been able to avoid scams, because native Vegasians warned me, not because some phobic Fundamentalist cringed at the sight of a scantily clad hot babe, or thought that winning a thousand dollars was "evil." Vegas is Vegas. It has growing, and shrinking pains just like any other town. Personal responsibility comes to the fore. No one holds a gun to a gamblers head, and pushes him/her into a casino. People who have no impulse control can be found anywhere.
