I personally find this aspect of Indiana appealing, and think it gives the
state some status in my estimation.

I agree. The liberal elite loves to look down on places like Indiana because it isn't liberal enough, as if being conservative is a bad thing.

IN is pretty much an average to below average state besides its football team. What else does it have going for it? Not too much I'm afraid, and I've never been impressed with it.

State Rankings--Statistical Abstract of the United States--Persons 25 Years Old and Over With a Bachelor's Degree or More, 2004 (IN- 46th)

Heath:

I love Indianapolis! There are some neat artsy pockets of the city where you can find some eclectic tastes and attitudes. The city is not overly conservative from what I know.

Well, go ahead and move there. See how Indiana gives its citizens cradle-to-grave welfare benefits that discourage even looking for work. See how some towns are dominated by dirty factories that pollute the surrounding farmland. See how much your home depreciates. See your monthly property tax on your $180K house equal a new car payment. See how the road you pay to drive on is controlled by a foreign government. See how many times you leave the state to find a vacation spot or place of interest. See how pi equals 3.2. Yes, if being red is what this state has going for it, then pack your bags.

Default "Purple America." Less divisiveness; we're getting there.

“The liberal elite loves to look down on places like Indiana because it isn't liberal enough . . .” ~ DefaultAlias

You’ve got some knowledge of the “liberal elite” do you? And then you would also have knowledge of the “conservative elite” as well?

You might want to take a look at your “red” State:

wow! I was wrong. The county that Indianapolis is in looks pretty red. It seems to me, though that most sizeable cities - within the city proper, I mean, go somewhat democrat.

It doesn't get any more Republican than Western Kansas, Western Oklahoma and large swaths of the Texas Panhandle, huh?

"One thing that Indiana has going for it is that it's a Red state. Would you agree?"

No.
