Yes.

THIS is why I am not religious. The paranoia, the ignorance, the contradictions, and the irrationality of its followers. Smart people eschew religion and we all know the left side is better educated. The left's "agenda", if there is one, is to get people thinking more clearly. Some people think that's a threat, especially the religious.

Of course we could also ask why so many churchgoers are right wing, but this is aimed more at the liberals on this board. Well, I have to go to work, so I'll check back later. Thanks for responding.

I consider myself to be a conservative Christian but do not consider myself to be religious. For me, my faith is all about a personal relationshiop with my savior and religion is all about empty rituals and rites that are meaningless.

Not everyone on the right is religious.

People who define themselves as progressive or left aren't all non religious either.

1. God is a capitalist, the #1 supporter of the military-industrial complex.
2. God loves money and war.
3. God hates Palestinians. Closes his eyes to everything Israel does.
4. God hates Islam.
5. God hates gays.
6. God hate intellectuals.
7. God hates Arabs.
8. God wants all the above bombed into oblivion.
9. All the violent things that humans do, but what God hates most of all is sex.

Gimme a good reason why I should be religious!

That's a good point. I guess by religious I meant having a genuine faith in a higher power (God/Jesus/Allah, whatever). At it's heart, Christianity is more a relationship than a religion.

1. Not all religious people are paranoid.
2. Being religious doesn't make you stupid. What an arrogant, smug thing to say.
3. Yes, the left claims more educated people, but that has little to do with religion, IMO.

This is why I'm not secular. The smugness, the "I'm smarter/more enlightened than you" attitude toward the morons who dare to believe in a higher power. Don't start calling people of faith arrogant (as many do) until you get off your high horse, my dear.

Wow! This is like the only post that has truly stayed on topic.

Religion is individual belief, the church is what happens when a group of people are put in charge of people's individual beliefs.

I'm of the persuasion that all religion is irrational, and organised religion specifically is a malady. If they had no power to promote the fruit of their irrational tree, I would view religion as a harmless peculiarity.
It's interesting how the left always claims they are for progress and will spout off all the wonderful things progress has given us yet they are not brave enough to take credit for all of the failures that have been done in the name of progress.
Lobotomy anyone?
