Why were pensions established for workers?

Why was paid insurance started for businesses?

One would think it was because the employers wanted to take care of it's employees. Not so!!

Those programs were implemented to draw in better talent and retain them, nothing else.

Now everyone thinks it is "their right" to have pensions and paid insurance, if your employed. More entitlement programs the lazy employees want our government to force upon us, to take care of us in this "Mommy State"

Not everyone thinks that. Only the people who have them.

Insurance was introduced at at time when the country had more jobs than we had workers to fill those slots. Group insurance was cheap back then and employers started offering it to give them the edge in getting people to work for their companies. Pensions were offered to retain workers and save the companies a lot of money to have to keep retraining people because it was custom to keep moving up to a better paying job elsewhere.

I don't think too many share that train of thought. I as a worker with a 401K plan and insurance do not and neither do my co-workers.

And the medical insurance offered was only "hospitalization".

Not when hospitalization was first offered. It was a lot cheaper than that. But then wages were a lot lower too.

Why are insurance companies no longer non-profit organizations?
