A war song is also known as a battle cry... far different from singing a song about how we gained our freedom in the face of adversity.
By your definition.

The only one discrediting you is you. I have not read any glaring personal attacks against you, so perhaps you are just being overly sensitive. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen?
No one is discrediting me. Some of you are trying to. And talk about being overly sensitive.....you and some of the others are really overreacting to my suggestion.

Please change your post above. I did not say the following to which you attributed to me.

I have asked you nicely to change your post. I did NOT say the following statement that you included in a quote of mine:
Quote:
Perhaps I just have more respect for the country than to think it is well represented by a song which most people sing so badly that they don't or shouldn't sing it.
It is against the TOS to purposely misquote another poster.

"purposely"??? Way to overreact and make an unsubstantiated accusation. I missed a tag. Big deal.

Ah freedom of speech, isn't it grand. " The Star Spangled Banner " FOREVER.

I figured you missed the tag and gave you the benefit of the doubt when I politely asked you to change your post, to which you replied "WOW" with a link to a different post. You didn't change it until I asked a second time.

Never mind the fact that you should actually apologize to me for misquoting me in the first place. Is your mantra "a best defense is a good offense"?

I didn't misquote you, I missed a tag. If that you need an apology for that, consider it done.

This is silly and incorrect. This is a song about patriotism and survival, not war. Perhaps you never bothered to actually read the lyrics?

No pop singers, no vocal showoffs, just people singing an anthem that they want to do well.

How do you even think you could do what was done at this game with a group of pop stars singing "This Land is Your Land"? Get the pop singers out of the lineup and use only people like Whitney Houston who can sing within their range and do it honestly.

When I listen to a large band play the Star Spangled Banner I always cloud up but I don't think your song would get me too excited no matter haw big the band.

That was great. You've got to have a cold cold heart or a lot of hate for the country you live in to not appreciate the song and in this example WHO sang it/played the horns and flew over the stadium.

The most common reason people call for a change is because they can't muster up enough to hit the high note? I guess I would have to agree with you here. Too hard, so change it...or find a a way to make sure everyone can hit that high note so no one feels left out.

As for how often we are asked to sing it -- why would anyone ask the average person to sing a song so unsingable that most people won't sing it or sound awful doing it. A singable song would result in Americans actually singing at sporting events and celebrating the country rather than standing around waiting for the beginning of the last few lines so they can start cheering through the rest of it.
You have crossed over the border and in to ridiculous la-la-land.

Have kids? Ever tried to sing "Elmo's World" theme song along with your 2 year old? Gets a little high. Should Elmo have to change up? Get a new song? Gonna petition PBS about the red rag puppet and his stupid song where your average "joe parent" can't really hit the high notes? Ever sing "lullabye, and goodnight, go to sleep my dear baby" to your little baby? Gets a little high at 4am.

Your issue is transparent. You didn't start the thread "for fun" and you know you didn't. But now, you back-peddled into how you have a problem with "high notes"? And you EXPECT to be taken SERIOUSLY? Keep trying.

An absolutely AWESOME performance.

Anyone who doesn't think that song is beautiful is just an idiot.

Thanks Roysoldboy for posting the link.
