Because for the past 12 months 0bama has had a completely partisan effort to pass health care,
Well, that is not entirely true, now is it? Why? Because there were three Republicans and three Dems on the panel who decided what goes in, or out of the bill. The gang of six. Many parts were modified and/or removed at the request of Republicans. Remember Grassley removing the "end of life concelling"? Yep, yep, he made a big deal out of it and then it was revealed that he actually voted for it in 2003.
And the current bill includes many truly bi-partisan elements such as:
- remove caps
- remove pre-conditions clauses
- allow across state lines sales (insurance exchange)
And those three are the three biggest changes in the bill. They are all bi-partisan.
So, it is pretty dishonest for them to insist they have been completely shut out. Such claim is a partisan trick, and they need to give it up, because the truth is out by now.
The Democrats have constructed a Frankenstein that has the potential to live a thousand years and now want the Republicans to publicly add an arm tattoo, that says, "Bipartisan Built." Not a likely scenario.
The Republicans are suddenly on a rampage to oppose even their own ideas. Late last year they sponsored a bill to create a panel with a task to reduce deficits. When Obama said "OK, let's do it", the Republicans who has co-signed the bill voted against it. WAAAAHHH!?!?
And now this. They insist on being involved in the HC bill, and when they are asked to join a dabate, they turn it down.
Do you care or have interest in what majority of the country wants or feels? Because it seems to be your way what you want or no way at all.
A majority wants reform now. They, Congress, knows that. Neither bill in Congress now has the support of a majority of Americans. The Republicans have, and will likely, continue with their position that the only acceptable bill will be what they devise. They, the Repubs, have no interest in compromise. If a solely Repub bill comes out, they will go for it. That way, they can claim, correctly, that reform was a Repub plan. Anything short of that, ie. a compromise, would be viewed as an Obama/Dem success. This Country is in desperate need of a reform bill, particularly one that comes out of bipartisan compromise. That is why I say they have no interest in what the public thinks, other than for political reasons. That is not just a Repub attitude, there are quite a lot of Dems that share that. The American people know that, hence Congresses 18% approval rating.

Apparently, the Republicans think that everything's fine, just the way it is.
and, to them, nothing needs to be done.

So, after a year of closed doors the dems are throwing the doors open and allowing open debate on health-care. Do you really think it will be open debate or just another chance for Obama to shake his finger at the Republicans in an attempt to shame them for the cameras.
He wants to make the republicans the evil empire- the fact that for months the dems have had all the marbles doesn't matter. It is all those "NO" people that are causing the problem. Yes it will be televised but the majority of the populace won't sit through the debate and he knows that. They will get the pre-chewed sound bites that the media will feed them. Obama has used the media from the beginning to push his agenda and they have complied like dogs at his feet.
He spoke at the GOP retreat and got some great sound bites out of it, he's just hoping for a repeat performance. I hope the GOP does not give in to his latest scheme.
